Much of California has reach its housing cap, meaning no new homes can be made. That cap includes the extremely rural Los Osos and Morro Bay.

Also, if you look at that, as I did, with population vs food production, we are trading our farm land for more houses. Near the city of SLO, I was able to watch two large pieces of farmland get converted into high income housing (trading farmland for houses). And don't forget, America has a larger immigration problem than Japan. We have more people coming in than they do.

Sure, Japan has an evident overpopulation problem, but America has one too, though not as evident. Thankfully, many of the eastern American cities do grow up and not out like Japan does, helping our larger cities control the problem a little better.

When I took the Shinkansen out of Tokyo I was on it for 3 hours and Tokyo never stopped...Or at least the city didn't.

The only way you can tell that you have entered the countryside between cities is that people start growing crops. Ontop of their houses.

One observation, if a typhoon is going to hit Japan, invest all your money in roof tiles. Trust me.

Well, America does have an overpopulation problem in some areas (the ones that are cool like Cali and Florida ;D), but if you go to the midwest, you see a lot of open uninhabited areas.

Yeah when I was out in Montana, everything was so spread out and sparsely populated. I saw more COWS than people!

Yeah, don't you know. You have to enter at seperate entrances and everything. With boy blue and girl pink tickets. Don't even get me started on the obsession. They draw animated movies about it, you know.

highly inflammable, huh? just what we need.

I hate America too. Im doing an exchange program when Im in 10th grade to see if I want to move there. I dont mind the 3x3 foot apartments, the over crowedness, or anything like that. Even when I see a picture of Tokyo or some other place in Japan it makes me happy. Yeah Im obsessed with it but its like the best country in the world.

I know that's exactly what I've been telling people. They come back at me all like "no you've just got a romanticed view of the country because it's been idolised by popular culture" and then they're like "the popularity of japan with young people stems from their desire to escape the very tangible blandness of western society, and japan represents a wholly different kind of cultural experience, but it's not actually a better country" but I'm all hey shut up japan's great because its a better economy than the USA, has a more even distribution of wealth too! Its got better overall standard of life and samurais! Its cultural history is why you'd want to live there! Right? I'm all no i'm going to experience the past and they're like "well that's ridiculous you can't base living in a country on it's history - look at germany" but im all no i'm living in the present.

Some anti-japan people are idiots.

I completely agree.

XD Your post made my day. I actually snorted.

Anyway, I want to go to Japan. Not because I like anime! Because I'm actually interested in the culture and history, and there's only so much I can learn from the internet. I'd like to study there, but I'm not sure that I'd have the faintest glimmer of hope to get into a university there.

Sun Aug 06, 2006 10:29 pm

I'd like to visit Japan, definitely not live there. It's the cultural interest, since I already know enough things about it that should make me not want to go in the first place. Then again, just because I'm interested in Chinese history doesn't mean I want to go there... oh well, not sure why then...

Oh... that's right...

NIIIIIIIIIIIINJAHS

That has to be it, it must be.

Wait, I thought we were talking about Korea? China, what?
