Well, I think they're trying to be super g-rated. They don't want anybody interpreting a romance between male faeries and female faeries, so they have no males. (But it's okay to put the females in sexy outfits. :P )

Weren't 2 characters married in one of the plots? o_O

Yes. I think they're okay with married characters, but not with any dating/romance among non-married characters.

I voted yes, because it would balance the entire game. There are too many girly-related things lol. But I can't imagine what they'd do, apart from giving out quests and stuff.

Besides, Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" was full of fairies, including Puck ;)

So is it safe to assume they only have arranged marriages in Neopia?

I don't know. It seems like their mate selection proccess is a complicated conspiracy nobody's allowed to ask about.

I always figured that the marriages in Neopia (the only one that comes to mind is the one from the LDP) were all fairy tale, "destined" marriages. Something that was going to happen no matter what...not quite arranged...well...arranged by destiny. There. How's that? :P

I'm looking forward to the results of that contest. I can't really imagine Faeries as anything other than female. Faerie implies female imho.
Effeminate male Faeries would be nice, but I doubt Neopets will accept that :(

Bio - the pink symbol under her username means female. ;)

But speaking of masculinity (or lack thereof), I do think that's why there aren't and may never be male faeries - TNT is probably terrified of potential controversy and/or homophobic parents lashing out for any sign of gayness. After all, 'fairy' is (or used to be? I haven't heard it used much) a somewhat derogatory slang term fr a gay/girly guy.

But perhaps TNT didn't consider this line of thought: If there are no male faeries, then why do the female faeries tend to wear such skimpy clothing? They're not going to attract any guys, so that leaves...other female faeries.

Personally, I think male faeries or other male human-ish characters would be nice in Neopia for the sake of balance. Besides Tombola Man, everyone in Neopia who's not a (female) faerie is a neopet. However, creating male human characters would no doubt result in tons of stupid dating/romance rp boards that violate the rules, and thus much headache and misery for neoboard monitors.

Elves? How would those be different from the Faeries we already have?

Well, if there was a choice I would pick elves, male faeries sounds... creepy o___O But yes, I agree, they're both to feminine to "balance" anything on Neopets :P I think... gnomes would be better, for example.
