Today i got a neomail from someone who said who wanted to give away her account.

I knew there are lots of scam like this but the neomail was written in a good language, the account was 1 year old and all the pets were painted. So i said a few items wouldn't hurt and got the account.

She said i could change her and i did..although i couldn't change the mail because of pin..so i made the new password different than my main one..i know she didn't get my password so...

i wanted to ask if this is freezable, the other side gave me the account so..

btw i think it is a kind of scam, to get your password if you use all the same..

thanks..

I wouldn't accept it if I were you. It is against the rules to even give away an account. One must self-freeze if they never wish to play neopets or on a certain neopets account ever again. Check the Terms and Conditions.

Pretty sure TNT has made it clear that this is technically freezable. May not be a scam, but it feels pretty shady that she gave you her password and not her pin (does this mean you can't access her sdb, bank, ect?). Doesn't really seem like she was giving it to you 100%.

I've side traded accounts between good friends in the past and didn't have any consequences. But we traded virtually empty accounts and discussed it off the neopets site.

Unless she reports you or you are transferring a lot of items/np/pet you probably won't get frozen. But you could. And unless she's giving you a SuAP, it probably isn't worth the risk.

If you ever want to give an account to a friend, don't do it over neomail.

If I were you, I'd be cautious about moving items and such from that account. Possibly the person who contacted you actually got that account from hacking it, and this is some ploy to lay the blame on you.

But, maybe I'm oversuspicious. Random acts of kindness do happen, after all. It's just a bit out of the ordinary for a stranger to give such a gift.

It is against the Terms and Conditions to give an account away. Discreetly amongst friends with nothing other than pets (no items, NP) is borderline and I am guessing still strictly against the rules but probably not freezable over. Since that scenario could be more like a private adoption, which I *think* might be legal, but don't quote me on that. Check the T&C!

Even a close friend with NP and items is technically not allowed to gift that account to any other person. That user must self-freeze his/her account instead.

Having said that, a friendly person could legally gift all items and NP to a friend before hand, transfer their pets to that friend through the Pound, and then self-freeze the barren account and all would be kosher. 8)

(At least I am pretty darn sure on that.) I should have just said first, please beware as I see it as simply one form of many possible scams.

And to clarify from your Subject line, yes it is freezeable to accept such. Unless this person is friendly enough to directly send you all of his/her NP and items then even transfer pets in the Pound to you, then self-freeze, it is a freezeable offence. I believe it is even in the short Terms & Conditions. Please do read that and if in doubt, ask TNT or ignore the person (or report them for harrassment if such behavior persists).

your not allowed into another persons account, even if they are giving it away. One person I was talking to on the neoboards was getting rid of there account, so she gave me the 80K NP she had, which was fine cos she just bought a junk item from my shop for that much. the account it self was self frozen after that though.

If you have to ask 'is this freezable?' then it most likely is.

If you have logged into that account, stop now. Just leave it alone or something bad could happen to you.

I agree that it was most likely hacked/scammed from someone else, and the hacker/scammer was trying to pass it on which is why they didnt have the PIN.

Best being on the safe side and not doing it... anyway, doing stuff like that kinda defeats the purpose of neopets - working your way through games, investments and making neopoints on your own steam.

...yet. It doesn't always happen immediately. Even in the future, like a few months down the road, all that has to happen is the person who gave you that account has to get into trouble with another account... and then TNT could freeze all accounts she's ever been in, including that one. (Your original account could be in trouble, too, if they think it could be involved.) I've seen it happen before, more than once. Also, there is a very good possibility that the account you were given didn't actually belong to the giver but was stolen by someone else (and that's why she didn't give you the PIN -- she doesn't know it). In that case, it could be several days or even a couple weeks before TNT gets a report from the real owner and investigates, and THEN you'll be frozen.

So! My advice to you is to change that e-mail back to whatever it was when you were given the account and stay the heck out of it, and just hope that'll save you (though it could already be too late; TNT keeps records of every IP that logs into an account). And never, ever do anything like that again.

It sounds to me like she is setting you up. And I say that because the email address has a pin on it. Since you are unable to change the email address because of the pin, then technically she could do a password request at any time in the future and have your new password set to her email address. So, she could be waiting for you to transfer nps, valuable items, etc. over to the account. Then she requests your password via her email address, gets into the account, and changes to password so that you no longer have access to the account. She gains all of the nps and goodies you have sent to the account. And you are out of luck.

Anytime a thing a deal looks too good to be true, it usually is.

There IS a scam of this type.

A person offers their account via neomail (but everything is protected by PIN) as bait. The hook involves waiting for the victim to change the password, request that password, then apply the password to the victim's account to attempt access and theft. The idea is that the victim will use a password that they know; preferably thier own!

It is remarkable that anybody falls for it. Moreover, many scammers have lost thier accounts to thier own stupidity in trying to set up such. Then again, the rest are usually frozen.

o.o

would they get susicious if you give all the items from one account to another? [IE: make yourself a newfriend, and then pass the stuff from one account to another]

of course, you'd have to be sneaky, and use multiple computers.

make sure to feed the pets though!
