I don't know how, but several days ago the contacts on my MSN messanger got wiped out. When I logged on, I had no one. Then suddenly I got the "ppt" person and "Sue" messaging me. I already blocked the person who I know is a scammer. I don't think it's gonna make a difference at this point of whether or not I block this other person.

If you already haven't, I'd change your password for your email and (if you have one) your secret question as well, especially if the answer is easily guessable through the information that people can look up on you.

Also, change any passwords that were the same as your neopet and email accounts.

Edit: I'm wondering something. This person had all 3 of my accounts frozen. I checked my accounts this morning and they were fine. They were frozen sometime after that or int he afternoon. If my accounts are frozen, how can the scammer have access to them and rip everything off? Unless they did it before I got home...considering they knew my exact hours I worked every day ~_~

I recently transferred everything from my (now) side account to my main, and including my pets it took about 25 minutes. This included 100ish items, 2 pets, 1.5 milnp. So it can be done. Or, no offense meant to you, but the scammer could just be kinda stupid. If they couldn't figure out why you had overpriced berries in your shop and had to resort to scamming to make np, then they could be dumb enough to get scared by this post and just freeze everything without transferring.

This whole topic is really creepy! It's too bad there are people like Sue in Neopia, much less the planet! I hope everyone realizes now that TNT NEVER recruits volunteer monitors. The monitors are paid, must live in the Los Angeles area, although they may work from their homes (telecommute). At least that's how it was about a year ago. TNT will NEVER instant-message you. They will NEVER ask for your password.

This is one of the reasons I chose a different user name here at PPT than I'm known as over in Neopia. And I don't ever put my email address on any public profiles, nor my IM address. It's better to be safe than sorry...

Perhaps you'd be best getting a new msn messanger username and moving on.

Oh man, this scam is going around again?

I see it appear every few months or so. Stupid people with no lives.

Gone, forever.

The only way I know how to spot the real emails from the fake ones is to set up the junk filters on hotmail.

I always get emails from 'ebay' or 'amazon' that are fake, and I know that they are because they end up in my junk folders. Any real ones always go into my inbox, so why would these end up in my junk folder unless they werent actually from amazon or ebay?!

Plus the spelling is generally rubbish, the ebay ones are for auctions from a few months to a year ago, or they are from the American versions of the sites. Plus the subjects never match the actual content.

As everyone has said - Neopets is a business, all jobs etc would go through the normal channels and we would have to apply to them. About that email address . . . wouldnt Snarkie have an ordinary mailto:'@neopets.com' address, not the mailto:support@neopets.com one?

I just checked some of the emails I have gotten from Neopets support staff in the past and the email address is @support.neopets.com, not mailto:support@neopets.com. However, I don't see how someone could have used the @neopets.com address to send an email because that domain is owned by Neopets. And their IE director would be the person to set up and approve each email address associated with @neopets.com.

And, you don't have to put up with people im'ing you. Just block them. You can block Sue and the scammer. And I don't see why you haven't. They are only going to harass you more. You can block any person who is already on your buddy list. And, im is set up so that you have to approve each person before they are allowed to talk to you, so just perhaps you should only allow people that you know.

If they logged into all of them and TNT traced any suspicious trades back to 'her' account, they would've found Sue's IP Address and blocked/froze everything that ever logged on from there. You might still be able to get them back if you ask support politely enough while giving them clear proof you owned it before.

It is quite easy. Simple forms can be sent with any e-mail address listed. An example would be to send yourself a neogreeting. You can put any e-mail address you wish into the From: box and the e-mail you recieve will say from that address.

Fun for sending greetings from the President, Santa, The Easter Bunny, Snarky, or even your child's pet. ;)

Morningstar, it's really easy. Spammers use it all the time, especially phishers. It's called 'spoofing'. :(

Gmail also has very good filtering, and it's much harder to scam your way into a gmail account than a hotmail account (a gmail account must be inactive for 5 days before ANYONE can have the password reset). You might want to consider making separate accounts to use on neo and on forums.

Me in a dress - that's a once in a lifetime opportunity

I was scammed one time. The scammer was obviously not the brightest. They earned about 700k, stuffed about 20 petpets in my SDB, and then I got my account back :D.

Hotmail is extremly good at blocking emails. I rarely get spam and I'm only on the second level of blocking. It is a little annoying because if I sign up for something new and they send a comformation email, I usually don't get it until I put it on my safe list.
