He was such a wonderful man. I admired him for taking such phenomenal risks and caring for the wildlife. He had a good family too...

As mentioned before, at least he died doing something he loved. What are the odds of that these days?

I wanna share my grief too. My family and I loved watching his shows when I was small. I wont forget the famous croc hunter that put aussie on the map. He made aussie proud. Like everyone I feel sorry for his family he left behind, their so young and but lucky to have a brave dad. May you find peace Steve Irwin....
To answer your question Zilary. The odds of getting stung by a stingray is very rare, stingrays only strike for self-defence. He was shooting a documentary that time..

I hear that it wasn't actually Steve who spooked the ray, it was the cameraman. According to the news on yahoo, they caught his death on film, too. I just hope that it never finds its way on the web; as with a certain beheading video. Rest in peace Steve, I never had the opportunity to watch your shows, but I still knew you. I was surprised to hear that he was only 44 years of age, I felt as if he'd be older, since it seems as if he's been around forever.

At the moment, a lot of people are pushing for the police to destroy the film after they are finished with it.

I was at a Kasey Chambers concert last night, and she played a song that she'd written about him after meeting him 3 years ago. it was really nice as she explained how much she loved him and how amazing it was when she met him before she played the song.

I heard that nobody even knew the stingray was there, because it was under the sand or something.

On Rockstar: Supernova Wednesday night, Toby Rand (the Australian) got an encore performance of his original song, and he had an Australian flag and dedicatedd it to Irwin, which was nice.

On Jay Leno the other day (Tuesday?), they showed film clips from when he was on the show. Jay said what a great guy he thought Steve was and you could tell he was broken up about it. :(

Its nice that people are recognizing him for all the awesome work he did instead of saying he had it coming.

Its funny, that at first the public hated him for the croc child stunt.. Now they recognise him as a hero after his death :(

I am surprised that there hasn't be a topic about stingrays being murdered after a stingray killed Steve Irwin.

What is your reaction to the people who have been killing stingrays after they found out that a stingray killed Steve Irwin?

Source and full story

Quote:
Stingrays have been found dead on two Queensland beaches
Dead stingrays with their tails cut off have been found in Australia, sparking concern that fans of naturalist Steve Irwin may be avenging his death.

Mr Irwin, a TV personality know as the "Crocodile Hunter", was killed while diving in Queensland when a stingray's barb stabbed him in the chest.

Since then, 10 stingrays have been found mutilated on Queensland beaches.

Government officials said they were investigating the deaths and there could be prosecutions.

Two stingrays were found at a beach north of Brisbane with their tails cut off, while eight were found on another beach on Monday, The Australian reported.

Wayne Sumpton of the state fisheries department said it was not clear if the incidents were connected to Mr Irwin's death.

He said fishermen who inadvertently caught stingrays sometimes cut off their tails to avoid being stung, but such a practise was uncommon.

To be honest, as I was reading this I was actually quite shocked at how people could suddenly just start maliciously killing Stingrays over the entire scenario. I mean, Bill Oddie explained in an episode of Springwatch how a wildlife photographer was killed in action by a tiger - yet I wasn't so outraged that I wanted to go out there and mow down Tigers from here to South Africa.

That's cause there ain't any wild tigers in America. I bet if a dog (that was known to be a 'violent' breed) mauled a well known person, such as an actor, or TV presenter, well, wouldn't you feel the need to emphasis that certain dogs do need to have control restrictions on them, better security etc. At least, I hope so, most of us have a high respect for the law and it's practical use in society to not kill an un-involved animal due to any prior incidents, but still..

Not that I agree with the executions of the stingrays, I think it is irresponsible and, for the lack of a better word, utterly stupid. I'm quite sure Steve Irwin would have openly protested against such cruel actions done to any animal, so doing it in his honour, or whatever, revenge is stupid.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure Steve is spinning in his grave pretty fast right now.

That comment is very offensive. What does America have to do with it? The events in the article took place in Australia.

It's very sad if people are killing anything "in Steve's honor". That's against all he stood for. :(
