(Not quite sure I put the question mark in the right place in the poll question, but oh well.)

I myself hate the word "panties" because it sounds/feels gross or wrong for some reason. Whenever I bring this up to a female friend, she seems to agree. Also, I never hear females say "panty" or "panties" unless it's the voice-over from the Victoria's Secret commercials. It's almost always "underwear." On the other hand, guys seem to have no problem with the word. So I decided to see if this was a common phenomenon, or if I'm just talking to weird people.

Underwear...
I'm not really that fussed about the use of such a word, I have much better things to worry about.
Like whether to wear boxers or briefs... o_O
Both have thir upsides and downsides.

Big fan. Helps me to discern underwear for women from underwear for men. That's especially important as I live with a woman, and I have learned to know at a glance what is mine and what is not in terms of clothing, books, bedspace, and oxygen. I'm not a fan of the word "boxers," though I couldn't say why. And "briefs" seems like a type of legal document.

And of course "boxer briefs" sounds like something that Mike Tyson delivers to stay out of court.

Nobody says "skivvies" anymore. Perhaps we're worse off for that, but that's out at any rate. Same with "bloomers."

So that leaves us with "panties" for women and "underwear" for men. Or, I suppose, "manties."

It doesn't bother me at all. I tend to say both "underwear" and "panties"...no preference really.

It is a word! Why get bent out of shape? Women wear panties and men wear boxers or briefs. Big deal. Just have to be mature about it and get over it.

I hate the word panties. Don't know why, it just creeps me out. Call them knickers instead. Or if you're going to be really sensible, call trousers, trousers and not pants!

Mm, now you mention it, I don't like "panties" much either.

I think it's because it sounds kinda childish/cutesy/annoying (compared to just calling them "pants"). It's like these friends I had who always said "kiddies", instead of "kids". It bugged me a lot!

I dunno. Panties are generally lacy things that cause paradoxes in the way that the less of them there is, the more expensive they are, yet selling nothing does not seem to provide unlimited wealth. Oh well. Otherwise it's just underwear.

Manties are rather unpleasant looking.

*Could cite some very disgusting terms for a person of a differant ethnic origin but wont for obvious reasons*

That tell you why People get bent out of shape by words?

It makes me think of little kids, so I wouldn't say it.

It's just kind of a wierd word, I guess... I don't really like it.
