News cast..

Multi-dimensional physics may finally get the go ahead :D
But then...

Gotta love science eh

I heard about that, and I don't care what the armageddon probability is with that thing, I still don't like the fact that is produces black holes this close to the planet. Who cares if it's tiny? We're not entirely sure the physics behind the real ones.

We create them on a fairl regular basis as is, so I doubt theres much danger.
That, and we are fairly certain how they work (Really big gravity wells. That's about it)

Really? How? And do we know exactly how big the gravity well is? Can we predict how big it will be for sure?

Ooh, miniature black holes. Now we won't need landfills anymore.

Seriously though, that's interesting. I wouldn't want to do that on or near Earth though. :\

All this money that could be ending world hunger and curing various diseases is now possibly going to destroy the planet? I don't really care about how small the chance is. It's still possible. I'd be putting the cost of that to better causes if I were running the show. =/

Well, if they destroy the planet they also end world hunger and eradicate all known diseases.

Dont have the equation at hand (Did borrow the book afterall) but yes, it is quite qauntifiable.
A black hole of that size has a negligable gravity well.
It explains in the article how we can make them (Particle accelerators)

Or, you know, research the science that could give us near limitless energy thus ending the need for third world dependence of oil and gas, reducing greenhouse emissions and everything else you could care to worry about.
Or, use Cloning. Which we are. but this is Physics, not Biology.

Right! The politicians should do something else with the money then invest in science! We need them to spend all our money on roads and the military and tax cuts for the wealthy and subsidies for business. Those deserve our tax money more than science. Dang scientists for wanting money that should go to big business and the military.

Calm down dear. :)
With this we should be able to Fire Nukes at right angles to reality.

To tell you the truth, I rather not have them do this experiment as even though the chances are extremely low, there's still a chance. It creeps me out.

I guess that's a sadistic way of looking at it.

Course there was also the chance the atmosphere would ignite when the first Atom bomb was used.
Or that a wave of Anti-matter would sweep away all of existance every time we fire up a Particle acelerator.

We gotta do it, or we'll never know.

I totally agree. It is the duty of science to mess with things we have little or no clue about what the outcome will be.

And these examples are just ones of man-made crazy things that will wipe us out from the unknown. There are also infinite more natural things that can just as easily wipe us out from the unknown. Why not cause it ourselves than let nature take its course? We have the same odds of both happening, but at least we can try to control the outcome with something like this. Plus this is fun science. And fun science is cool 8)
