Ranking of items in the galleries seems confusing. Is it?

In your gallery,

1.) Do you rank items for when viewing all items?

2.) Do you rank items for when viewing categories?

Which of the following functionality is worthwhile to have:

A.) To have a link that has 'View All' ranking adopt the same ranking as category ranking when clicked.
B.) To have a link that has items in the categories adopt the same ranking as the 'View All' when clicked.
C.) To set the ranking of items inside of a category independent of the View All ranking.

Would it be worthwhile to have A and B be a preference you could set so that those actions happen automatically with each update?

I'm thinking my answer is B if I am reading what you are saying right.

You mean if I have items A-B-C-D-E-F-G and they are in such order in the View all when I click to go to my catagory under say clothing and item F E and A are all clothing they would appear in the order of A-E-F correct?

I think most people set up there galleries so it's basicly one catagory ontop of another meaning A-B-C could be a catagory then item D-E-F-G would be a catagory. So I think having it so the items appeared in the normal order as they would in View all could be enough.

HOWEVER for those who like a little more veriety in how they order things they may like being able to organize differently under catagory then how things are in the view all view. So prehaps an option of wich would be more accpetable.

Tho I spose you could make it so things where defaultly set so they appeared as the view all view. But if one went to catagories and changed the order that order was then saved and new items would be added to either the begining or end of the saved order.

I am not too sure how to answer, but this is how I would like to see the Gallery work:


The Main Theme would have a system where you can set which order each theme will go on the page. These themes would be "set" so the items would not be mixed up on the page with items from other themes.

Ok, thanks! It sounds like you understand me.

I'm thinking I'll make it a preference you can set or unset. Choosing for the ranking to always be a certain way. Basically choosing A,B or C above.

Have you tried categorising your items? That is, assiging items to a theme?

Yes, I have categorised my items, but I didn't realise I could rank my Main Theme page.

That is what I was asking in my question. Not really anything to do with categorising them.

first off, I would like to say that I was having trouble with my categories a few weeks ago; I had a main category applied but whenever anyone would open my gallery all the items would show up, even if they were not in the category. But thats gone now ^_^

About ranking:

I rank them by categories. I have 160+ items in my gallery and rating them all at one time seems...not practical. But, I guess there are people who rank them like that.

However, option A and B seem as a very fine way to easily rank them all. B seems a bit better. That way it could load automatically the number rank of the last ranked items. Example: I have 30 items ranked, and have 20 unranked; the script could tell me that items 1-30 are ranked and I could either rank them after 30, or rank them before.
