On the afternoon anouncements today it was told that there was plumbing problems in our school, and as a result, no hot water. Apparently some law states that if there is no hot water, school cannot be in session, so we get tomorrow off!! I already had monday off for Columbus Day, So I only had a three day school week!! Do you guys ever have spur-of-the-moment school closings or things getting canceled?

This is quite a lucky Friday the 13th!

I've had 2 incidents like this. The first time we got sent home because the bells broke, and since our fire alarm system goes directly through the bells (and no bells means no fire alarm) we could not legally be in the school.
The other time was when the heating system broke, and I think the law is something like you can't work in a classroom below 16°C so we had to get sent home again!

Although they were minor compared to some of the things that happened before. When my sister was at the school she had to get sent home due to a gas leak, and another time she got sent home because the roof blew off the games hall and was landing all over the place (one bit fell on our headteacher's car).

Anyway, congrats on getting off school! Lucky dog.

Once half the teachers at my old school came down with a viral infection so they had to close. And when I was in year 10 or something, the electricity station across the road blew up and it was illegal to keep us in school due to the toxic fumes and lack of electricity. School was closed for like a week for that.

Nope, though we've had 7th period (which goes after school) cancelled once because flooding was so bad that 2 of the 3 bridges near our school were closed.

Gone, forever.

My building's heating system went out last January for two days, and the guy in the corner office said, "Well, I guess you'd better bring handwarmers."

I desperately yearn for the good old days.

Once we had bomb threat when I was in 6th grade. We evacuated the building and they later sent us home. It was just a threat though, as far as I know, there was no bomb.

We've just had snow days. And once way back in 5th grade, school almost got cancelled because the electricity didn't work, but it turned on right before school started. Otherwise, nothing :(

That is so not fair.
Most of my school time after elementary school has been spent in classrooms waaay below that.

We had a "cold day" one time. It was like a snow day, but there wasn't snow. They canceled it because it was too cold.

Then there was the time they called a snow day, and there was only a very small amount of snow. You could see the grass. I think they did that to make up for that one time (a few weeks previously) when there was about 2 feet of snow, and it was coming down heavily all day, and they didn't call a snow day.

We had a "bomb scare" last year, but we didn't get to go home. We just stood outside for two hours. It was June. I got sunburned. And really really irritated. And more bored than I'd ever been in my life.

At the end of last year, something in the plumbing got messed up at my school, so we got a day off, which was awesome. They fixed it within a day, though, so we had to go back the next day. It was kind of nasty, nobody wanted to drink out of the water fountains for a while. At the beginning of the day, the water was coming out kind of brown. D:

Gah, I so miss going to school T_T

Today all my friends got out of school early, but no one told me, so I missed a whole hour of hanging out at the library with them >.< AND they were watching FLCL.
