There used to be construction of a new building next to my old school, and one time, there was a gas leak. so we all evacuated and went to the high school, maybe 100 metres away, where apparently they didn't care about the gas leak. we got the rest of the day off to hang out in the high school. keeping in mind we were in grade 1, very fun day :D

In third grade school got canceled half-way through the day because the power went out and it was mid-winter.

In sixth grade school was cancelled for two days because of a bomb threat.

Well once when I was in Year Six we had our school evacuated because of a bushfire, but it was only after lunch so it wasn't very exciting.

And we've had half days cause of teacher's strikes for the past 3 years of high school.

But we never have and never will have any Snow Days :(

That is so not fair.

You want not fair? The rules here, are no classrooms ABOVE 45Celsius

Thats erm... *googles*

113 Degrees Farenheit.

And want even more not fair? My old english rooms hit that during the summer, and it takes aaages to pursuade the teacher that we get to leave :/

Teacher strikes! Forgot about those. We missed two solid weeks of school last October due to the strike.

Well I had like two things kinda like that. More recent one first!

A) Well, there was no electricity at my school for some reason and we still stayed there! It was cloudy and it even rained, but it was still EXTEREMELY hot! (110 degrees F.) I even tried to make an excuse to go outside into the rain to be at least in the rainwater.

Let's just put it at this. No a/c + hot day+me= A VERY ANGRY GIRL.

B) There were fires near my home and it got so bad that the sky turned like a gray orange. Soot covered EVERYTHING! We stayed home from school that week because the soot was so bad. No make up days at the end of the year too. YAY ME!

O_o 113?! Don't people die in that kind of heat?

Why didn't you just run for it? Nobody should have to be forced to stay in a room that hot. If I've got an issue with staying in a room, I walk out.

Mostly just snow days. It really sucked last year, we had a snow day during finals week, so they just made it so there was no make up finals day but we still had to make up the snow day at the end of the year. So we ended up getting an extra day because of it. Not fair.
And one time in middle school we had to go sit outside for- I don't remember, an hour-ish? More? Because the fire alarm went off. Turns out the sprinkler system in the attic had spazzed. And luckily it was a nice day out, so we sat around and played duck duck goose for a while.

Once we got to stay home because a transformer blew out above the school.

Wow. How lucky. All of the odd days off are never on cool days

Last year, Someone in In School Suspention held up a lighter to the sprinler and flooded one hallway and we got to leave

The year before I went to that school they found that one thermometer had mercury in it, and they sent everyone home.

Besides that, its just the normal snow days and power outtages.

Yeh probably. And most of the time, we have cool teachers who just take us outside to sit in the shade. (even then, its still about 40degrees so in the hundreds of F).

I dont want anyone complaining about the cold, ever :P

I've had to go to school every day I have... had to go to school, other than when I was ill. No snow days, nothing much. Once, a lightbulb exploded and the fire service came. We had to sit outdoors for a few hours in our PE kit. It was freezing and boring. So nope, nothing. Yawn.

Our school has to close if the river is on a Flood Warning. That's the second step up, the first one being Flood Watch. Often the river doesn't actually flood on a flood warning, which is kind of cool.

The reason for this is that if the river floods, a great deal of the student body can't get into/out of school because a lot of people live in villages with dodgy roads that are obstructed if the river floods. The river also runs through the town centre, so when it floods, half the kids can't get to school. They have to close it on a Warning because if it floods while school is in session, some people could be stranded there.

Same goes for heavy snow, if it looks like it MIGHT cause problems with the roads.

Hey, you try living in Massachusetts! At least the bowling balls aren't as heavy...

Like I said, I don't know any famous movie lines...(if you don't know what I'm talking about, just ignore that.)
