It's because the book has the same number of characters as your pet's name, or a multiple of that. You can change the language on the site if it's really important to you that they read it, but I usually just sell the item when that happens.

As for names, how about Harold?

I hate it how my pets won't read books that I bought them. (Sometimess they are worth alot...I get angry)
