Gillian: English feminine form of JULIAN
Julian: From the Roman name Julianus, which was derived from JULIUS.
Julius: From a Roman family name which was possibly derived from Greek ιουλος (ioulos) "downy-bearded". Alternatively, it could be related to the name of the Roman god JUPITER
Jupiter: From Latin Iupiter, which was from dyeu-pater, composed of the elements dyeus (see ZEUS) and pater "father".
Zeus: The name of a Greek god, related to the old Indo-European god *dyeus whose name probably meant "shine" or "sky".

Man, I've got a complicated name. So I guess it either means downy bearded, shining father or sky father. But I'm a girl, so I think I'll just kind of change that to mother. So "sky mother". That's kind of cool.

Edit// according to another site it's "downy-haired", and another says "sweetheart".

Mine is pretty obvious, but I had no idea Shakespeare made it up. Huh.

Middle name: reasonably strong female Biblical figure.

My cousin Jessica's name was apparently also a Shakespeare invention - well, in her case, a butchery-transliteration of Hebrew, but still first seen in Shakespeare.

And talking of Jessica, I still see no logical explanation for JKR naming her third child Mackenzie. I could see her being interested in the Canadian rebel mentioned on Behind the Name, except for the fact that said rebel is about as non-interesting as a rebel can be.

Other cousins: Alex, which I didn't really need to look up - Keaton, which I was told meant "place of the hawk", but is actually Old English for "shed town", which serves the brat right - Kyle, which means "strait"... whatever - Rachel and Ben, Biblical figures of the dull baby-factory variety - and Alyssa, which has a surprisingly convoluted origin that boils down to "blue-blood".

Ah, and I have confirmation: the name Beatrix has absolutely nothing to do with the name Bellatrix. No matter how much FF9 wanted to muddy the waters with their "Lookame Alexandria is full of female warriors and their general is Beatrix now let's watch Tharkun twitch!"

Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

Haha, Igg XD

My first name.. has no meaning. I am so hated. The closest thing to my name also means nothing.. unknown meaning. I feel so unloved.

My middle name means "From the (masculine) medieval name Josse, which was derived from the earlier Joceus or Jodocus, Latinized forms of the Breton name Jodoc meaning 'lord'" So what am I? A man?!

Lord Unknown. Cool.

From the Hebrew meaning "princess". She is pretty, vivacious, the life and soul of the party; always surrounded by her friends.

A bubbly personality.

My first name is Briana (pronounced Bree-on-uh not Bree-An-uh like the dumb website says) and it's the feminine form of Brian (duh). And the site had this to say.

Quote:
The meaning of this name is not known for certain but it is possibly related to the Old Celtic element bre meaning "hill", or by extension "high, noble". Brian Boru was an Irish king who thwarted Viking attempts to conquer Ireland in the 11th century. He was victorious in the Battle of Clontarf, but he himself was slain.

And my middle name Marie is a form of Mary. Which has meanings such as "sea of bitterness, "rebelliousness", and "Wished for child". That's the Hebrew meaning anyway. Supposedly the name was first Egyptian and it meant "beloved" or "loved".

So my name means a high rebellious sea of bitterness who wishes for a child but is also loved! Go figure!
