When a person wants to get a job with a company, one thing they should do is to familiarize themselves with the policies of the company. In this case, become familiar with TNT policies and be very careful to abide by them and to participate at the site in such a way that one's record remains clear. This shows understanding of the company policies.

What I am saying, is that the word, just making one up here, "bobble" is not permitted, then you don't use the word at all. I wouldn't even mention the word in a perfectly innocent message, or even use the word for a different meaning of it. If you don't know that "bobble" is forbidden, then you should strive to find out which words are not allowed, and then carefully not use them. Same thing goes with other activities that are not allowed.

Probably one error won't matter, so I doubt that you would need to worry.

I want to counter that. I was once caught for the words "bad as" for typing "as bad as". It's like, how would you know TNT also censors these? And it's not even the correct spelling of the bad word! My best suggestion is to stop using neoboards or guild msg boards, as I already did. :P

i don't think they'll be as upset even if they still think you wanted to hold a contest as if you were putting up fake login pages or scamming or spamming message boards, so you should be okay

and do they really ask about your neopets account when you apply? that's kind of silly, you could have gotten it when you were 13 and been young and dumb and made a mistake and they shouldn't be able to hold that against you when you're older

divineparamount has a good point. You may have gotten the account when very young.

I wonder if they ask why you want a job there. What would a person reply? That they enjoyed playing Neopets so much? That they heard it was an up and coming company that millions enjoyed? I would think that having an account would act in one's favor, yes? It would show interest in the company.

And good point made about how are we supposed to know all forbidden words. Are they listed somewhere? When my sons were just starting work, I suggested to them that they not only be completely honest on the job, but also that they be conspicuously honest. In other words, they should be honest so that nobody could find them doing something dishonest, and they should be conspicuously honest so that nobody would even accuse them of doing something dishonest. So in the case of NP, being careful to not used forbidden words, not just not being caught, would be a good idea. If you want to avoid the words, then you need a list of what not to use. I am thinking that there should be such a list, I just don't know how to find it.

Having applied for (and gotten) a number of jobs at this point in my life, I can't see how having a single suspension on your neopets account could possibly affect your chances of getting hired. Believe me, I've made much bigger mistakes working at actual jobs in my field, and I've still never had a problem getting hired. I'm in law enforcement, so they tend to be extra-concerned about that kind of thing, too. Your employment history, education, and enthusiasm will be oodles more important to any hiring manager.

And if it makes you feel better, I've gotten in trouble once on neo, too (for innocently using the word "party" on the boards). I've stayed out of trouble since, and I wouldn't think twice about it impacting my ability to work for neo.

Please don't let this stress you out.

TNT hires people based on their Neopets accounts? 0_o Seriously? No offense, but what sort of company evaluates possible employees based on how they spend their leisure time online? It seems a bit, uh, whimsical at best, is quite pointless unless it strokes TNT's collective ego to know that their employees are also their fans, and makes no sense as your conduct online has little connection to your competence and productivity as a worker in real life.

Just lie about it. TNT hasn't the right or the power to actually check up on whether you even have an account. Nor should it be any of their business.

If you have the the best skills to do whatever job it is you're aiming for, and you are confident and charming when interviewed, you will be fine. Good luck.

Well I think the whole thing is if you would obey the rules of the site too when you got a job there. Here are some examples:

If you were a scammer in the the past, as in you made and thought up ways to steal from people's accounts, then you could easily do that on the job or site. You might have ideas to steal important office stuff or do things to users accounts that are not allowed.

If you were found to post innappropiate things in chat or things against the Neorules, you could easily talk that way to other employees or leaders, or even sneak that into the site. In my example, I posted the word "contests" in my coming soon guild. Now since its against the rules to use that word they could easily think that I might use some forbidden words on the site.

Spamming might be someone's joy, and TNT would not like having a team member posting things on servers just to annoy players.

Regardless if things like these are checked before recieving employment, I feel that it could make me lose chances of getting a job. I have some very good characteristics that they would look for, such as great people skills, hard working, and an fun person to be around. But having offenses on your account might just erase all those good characteristics.

OK, two cents are being thrown into the ring. I honestly think you are worrying yourself over nothing. And I say that as the "wise old lady" of this group. I have been working in real life longer than many of you have been alive, so I know just a scootch about the way employers think. What you did was a small mistake. If Neopets had thought it was a big mistake, they would have frozen your account. And even I have gotten a warning before. Not all of the rules are clear and concise. There is no list of words to avoid. You learn sooner or later to never use the words prize, suicide, contest, bad as, etc. No one is going to interview you and ask "So, was your account ever suspended or frozen?" And if they do, then you explain it just as you did here. Look them right in the eye, be sincere, and be humble. You made a mistake. You didn't know it was wrong to say that. And you apologize and promise to never do it again. It isn't like you scammed, duped items, used an auto-bot, used a CG, or plotted and schemed against TNT.

But, unless you volunteer the information, how would they even know that the account belonged to you? So, try to relax and not stress. If it is still worrying you to no end, then write a snail mail to someone in their Human Resources Department. But, honestly, there are so many other things in the world to worry about, I really wouldn't waste much more time worrying about this. Instead, if you really want a job there, you need to worry about getting good grades in school. some experience (maybe volunteer) and good references. That's what an employer looks for.

A friend received a 24 hour suspension and while trying to find out exactly what she'd been suspended for she learned that even TNT didn't have any idea why so I wouldn't worry about one little mistake. As for not hiring people who've used auto-bots, I think they'd like to have a couple of those on staff to troubleshoot and find the loopholes in programming or an out and out solution to people using bots. The people making the bots may often have the type of skills and knowledge of programming that TNT would want (although I don't know if they've actually hired any lol). Just a thought.

I like pie.

Recently my school sent out an email saying that employers are more often checking online profiles such as MySpace and Facebook and it is influencing their hiring processes. Also, if you want to get into dentistry or chiropract...(ology???) and have never been to a dentist or a chiropractor you are very unlikely to get in.

That being said, I do agree with the other opinions on this board that one mistake won't ruin you. Having a Neopets account would probably help a lot in getting a job with TNT, but being honest can do wonders.

I had a great interview with a company, and when they asked me what I knew about the company I told them I honestly couldn't tell them a single thing about the company since I'd been up half the night doing a homework assignment and had no time to look them up. I got a second interview.

So don't worry, just be honest when the time comes. Until then, relax!

Here for years and still know nothing...

"Party" is on the forbidden word list!? :o I wonder why?

What I am saying about having an account or not is that if a person is asked why they want a job there, would it be an advantage to have an account? Otherwise, how would the applicant know about the company- other than it is a rising business. I'd think that having an account would show interest in the company and would be a positive thing. Not that TNT wouldn't hire someone without an account, I don't have any idea what the hiring policies are. I'm just thinking out loud.

And I agree with everyone else that a one day suspension for word use, especially now that it was mentioned above that there is no list, would likely not have any influence on being hired or not.

I think what a big part of the deal is TNT wants a co-worker and employee they can trust. Someone who has a good history. Now I'm not saying this will ultimately determine it, it just might be one of the factors.

Also I would be very honest with them. I would want them to understand that I did not mean to break the rules and I would want them to be able to trust me. But trying to explain it in the interview would be the hard thing.

I hope you dont mind me asking but how far away are you from applying for a job at Neopets?

If it's going to be in a few years time then a small suspension like this probably wont be in your records.

Seriously, dont fret!

So you think that a suspension or a warning would dissappear from my account records in a few years?

I still have some college to finish up, so it will be a little while before I move down there.
