No problems, pipsqueeek! I've lurked in a few Lenny Conundrum threads in the past, so it's about time I could give some hints in return ;)

Congrats you guys!

does that mean that H HAS TO = 4 and G Has to equal 1 since H can't be smaller than 4 and it can't be bigger than 4 because then G would equal 2 or above and would make G*H = >4. E.G if H equal 5 then G would equal 2 and H*G would equal 10 which makes the G*H<5 statement wrong.

These are the statements i have
plz tell me if i'm correct.
G*H<5
D-E<5
A+E=9
C-B=1
H-G=3
H=4
G=1

thx

hi again
can someone tell me what the 427 means because when you multiply 2*4*7 which is A*B*C we do not get 427. Confusing

thx

When it says / J is that the whole thing divided by J or just the bit after the * sign?

The order of operations applies in this problem, so you multiply by A before you divide by J.

Thanks for all the hints. It's finals week, so I decided to see if I could cut back on the time it'd take (I'd figured out there were only two possible values for g and h -- but I'd already spent about an hour and was trying too many different things). Your hints helped me focus, so thanks again.

For those having trouble, think about the hints and see what possible values are available. Work on g and h first. Once you have those, think about the relationships given for b and c, a and b, and a and e. Use trial and error -- if b = x, what do c, a, and e have to equal? Have those numbers been used up? You should be able to get all four of those numbers using this method. Once you have e, you can figure out the possibilities for d and f by plugging into the original equation (for example, if g*h=3, what would f^3 be if f=1,2,3,4... using only the numbers you haven't used yet)-- remember you won't get any negative numbers by subtracting. Then j will be the number that's left. Plug them into the equation and check your work.

In D - E < 5 , in this case, could it Equal 5?
In most cases, it couldn't, but I just wanted some reinforcement..

I would like to say that I just joined the Forum so I could post in on the Lenny Conundrum Treads xD
So expect to see more of me xP

I think the clues you guys are giving are messed up :cry:

Other users have given:
D - E < 5
A + E = 9
A - B = 3
G = 1
H = 4

I made a "T" chart here, based off of A + E = 9

A---|---E .............. If A = 7 , E = 2
-2---|---2 ................ A = 6, E = 3
-3---|---3 ................ A = 3, E = 6
-6---|---6 ................ A = 2, E = 7
-7---|---7

A nor E could equal 9, because That would make the other 0.. Inflicting upon the Offical Clue.

A nor E could be 8, because that would make the other 1, inflicting upon G

And neither could be 5, because that'd make the other 4, inflicting upon H.

NOW.. I made ANOTHER "T" graph, with C and B, with the clue C - B = 1

C----|----B
-8---|---7 .............. If C=8, B=7
-7---|---6 ................. C=7, B=6
-6---|---5 ................. C=6 , B=5
-3---|---2 ................. C=3, B=2

C cannot be 1, due to G, so B cannot be 8.
C cannot be 5, because B cannot be 4, due to H.
C cannot be 4, due to H, so B cannot be 5.
C cannot be 2, because B cannot be 1, do to G.

Now... (phew.. that took along time to type..)
Lets link the two graphs together with the other Player-Given formula,
A - B = 3

After making ONE MORE 'T" chart, (Which I am completly tired of typing them, so just trust me...)
A could be 9, 8, 6, or 5.
B could be 6, 5, 3, or 2.

CONCLUSION -- (For those skimmers and lazy people)

But after comparing to my T chart with A and E,
I found that the answer on BOTH 'T' charts between the two A's, would be 6.
THEREFORE, B = 3...............
Except...
When comparing this to the 'T' chart between C and B..
3 is not included AS A POSSIBLE ANSWER FOR B..

SO THE PLAYER-GIVEN FORMULAS HAVE COLIDED!

You guys are not funny :cry:

I think you misunderstood the statement when they said the first 2 numbers have a difference of 3. It could mean A - B = 3 OR B - A = 3.

Yes, that's exactly right. Either A - B = 3, or B - A = 3.

Kiddos (your post above): No, D-E is definitely less than 5 (and not equal to 5). Welcome to the forum, by the way! :)

Sorry for the confusion over the hints, guys.

OMIGOSH!!!
I just solved it.
I just refused to try the Guess-&-Check, but the VERY FIRST TIME I TRIED IT, I GOT IT.
Though, my first guess took me about ten minutes.. xD :roflol:

I'm so happy! This may be the first Lenny C. I've accualy gotten right!

Congrats. For me, I have no idea. Guess I'll wait for an easier Lenny C to come to me...
