FINAL WEEK GRADINGS!
That's right! Let's see what the professors had to say about your final week's graphics.
Firstly, my gradings:
Quote:
SetsHakojo I like how small and compact this set is.
The colors are very nice, and the avatar/sig side-by-side looks neat as the avatar is taller than the signature. I'm sad that you decided not to do any text though, because you usually do your text extremely well. Although, the colorization isn't as good as the ones you have done in the past rounds, and the little text behind the scanlines could have been a different color. -
8.5/10Bangel I love the colors.
This set is generally very nice, and the colors work great. I think that the scanlines, perhaps, might have been a teensy bit too strong. Perhaps you could have taken a really soft and low opacity brush, and just brushed over the turquoise areas. I think the dropshadow of the text, could have also been the same turquoise you used. Other than that though, good job.
-
9/10Neko The image is very nice and all, but I quite dislike the un-antialiased lines that are running around her head. I do realize that is a style and effect, but I've never really liked it. The white dots scattered around are fine, though. The mini text is good, but both the subtext and the main text doesn't seem to fit in with the signature. I think it's either because the blue is too dark (maybe the color of the border would have worked better), or that the text doesn't seem sharp enough compared with the un-antialiased lines. -
7.5/10Other GraphicsHakojo - Wallpaperhttp://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k174/ ... a_desk.jpgAgain, I didn't think you manipulated the colors well enough.
Though this does serve it's purpose as a wallpaper. The crossing dark and light scanlines are a neat effect, though. I think you work better with darker colors. Still, I think the text works well (as it is not just a solid color), and it was good for you to erase some of the scanlines. -
8/10Bangel - Album CoverThis is a really nice Album Cover. The colors are nice, the text is simple, but effective, and you've done an excellent job on the quality of the image. However, I really think the circle on the side had ruined it. I would have liked it much better without the circle at the side. -
8.5/10Neko - LJ IconThe colors are nice, although a bit dull in this icon. The dots and dotted lines in the background work nicely with the LJ icon. The only complaint I have is the character on the LJ icon. It doesn't seem very elegant, and looks rather awkward with the picture. The character looks a lot like "handwriting". I would have liked to see you do a bigger graphic in the last round, though. -
9/10 Secondly, we have blueZ's gradings:

i am so sad that this is my last time to critique your graphics as an official jury of the PPT Graphics Academy.
Well here they are!
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Hakojo
[set] - 7.5/10
---The good:
nice color choice, and the dark black contrasts really well, which creates the mood and atmosphere and it grabs your attention. i like how you also incorperated a little bit of blue into it to balance out the purple.
---The bad:
well the size really bothers me, it doesnt fully showcases your talent and ability. and the little pink-purple mini unreadable text are a bit distracting, and it looked like scanlines, and you have another set of white scanlines. so it looked like there were 2 sets of scanlines on the sig, which looks awkward.
[wallpaper] - 7/10
---The good:
nice arrangement of utena on the side, and the blurred out edges which creates a dreamy/sparkly feeling, which is really nice to look at. and i like the compisition of the second picture in faded in the background, it contrasts with the utena on the right which reflects dream and reality.
---The bad:
the color choice in this one was not that stellar, it bothered me a lot, i just didnt think the colors fit together, it looks a bit amatearish. i think it would have looked better the you unify the colors a bit, like either make utena a hinch more blue, or make the background a hinch more red/pink.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Bangel
[set] - 9/10
---The good:
really nice color choice and pretty text, its very pleasing to look at, and i like how you turned the mcfee horizentaly, and the scanlines are a nice touch as well.
---The bad:
hm.......................cant find any........
[album cover] - 8/10
---The good:
again, really nice color choice and text. and its very clean and un-photoshopy, which is good. and it looks like a professional album cover.
---The bad:
one thing that is really really, really bothering me is the little circle of shakira's face on the side, its really random and awkward looking. it looks misplaced, and its just a bit weird to be put there.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Neko
[set] - 8/10
---The good:
very pretty.... nice colors as well. I like what you did with the text, and the additional mini text. which creates a texture and balances out the main text. and fits well with the image and colors and atmosphere.
---The bad:
I am not really liking the pixelly lines and dots scattered every where on the sig. it just doesnt fit the image. i think perhaps you could have used not as pixelly lines and dots, and it would create a better effect.
[icon] - 8.9/10
---The good:
i really like this one, as like the text indicated. its beautiful. nice compisition of the person and text, they balance each other really well. and the nice colors brings out the mood.
---The bad:
the gradiented pink in the background really bothers me, i dont think that gradiented pink looks good alone by itself, i think it would look better if you added another color to blend it a little bit into the pink.
Thirdly, we have Neopet_Online's gradings:

Alrighty, here we go...
HakojoSetNice use of the colors in the set, it all works well, it isn't my favorite, but it's still good. I personally wouldn't use it, but the appeal is there, it's very well done and the image and colors you chose all work very well together. Final Score - 8.5BackgroundThe background was a bit dissapointing, it wasn't bad, at all, it was just I expected a bit more. It's very well amde, the colors all mesh very well and the image is awesome. I loooooove that show!Final Score - 8BangelSetI love Kat! Lol! I'm such an AI fanboy, anyway, it's very well done, and I'm not being biased, it works well the coloring you chose for it work well with the image. All in all a good set. The colors are very warm and appealing.Final Score - 9.
Album CoverI don't know, but something about this image says 'I was tired, and just needed to put something together, I still love it though. However, why is do people think that the cut-out effect looks cool? Somethimes it does, but it just doesn't work on this one.Final Score - 8 NekoSetThis set is very well made! All the colors work well in this and I love how you manipulated the image. Good work! The only problem I have with it is how the background looks a bit pixelated.Final Score - 9LJ IconI love this graphic and I love the way you manipulated, and I love that little sign you added! I have no idea waht it means, but it works well Final Score - 9.5And last but not least, we have Pixa's gradings:

MANGOS FOR WIS.
Okay, here it does.
Good luck everyone (and thanks to WIS for letting me be a reluctant judge, haha)!
Sets:
Hakojo:
Heh, throughout the contest I've been a really big fan of your work, it just makes me smile. The techniques you've used have been great throughout - so well done for getting this far. On this set, I think you've employed some good methods, and I like the effect of the scanlines. The colours are nice, too, and the way you've contrasted the image is great.
However, I couldn't say it's my favourite clip of your work. I just don't think it holds the creativity and originality that some of it does, and, I can't help but feel slightly disappointed. It's a lovely set, but I don't think it really shows off what you can do to the fullest potential.
I'm going to mark it... 8/10.
Bangel:
At first, to be honest, I wasn't the greatest fan of your work, but throughout the contest, I think you've just grew and grew, there has been a lot of progress in your work, and it has made me very happy to see you develop over time. And really, I think this set is no exception. I just love the washed up, beached look of the set. I think the scanlines work really well, and overall, it's just a really pretty set. I love the slightly vintage look you've added to the set, really, it just makes me smile.
Perhaps an improvement would be making the text a little bit smaller. But other than that, I congratulate your great work. 9.5/10.
Neko:
Well, I never really think it could be doubted that your graphics were pretty amazing, hehe. They've always been great, onto the final round, and you deserve it.
Onto the graphic, to be honest, though, I'm not the greatest fan. I like the contrast you've added to the picture, it looks bold and effective. The text looks slightly aliased, but I guess that really isn't your fault, and otherwise, I like it, so thumbs up. Unreadable text isn't always to my favour, but here, it works.
The problem I have is with the lines and 'stars' you've added. To me, they kinda look a bit choppy and rough, and I don't really like them. 8/10.
Onto your choices.
Hakojo:
I really love the dreamy and magical feel of this wallpaper. The colours make me just smile, and I love the glow that you've added to the woman, and the contrast too. The colours and scanlines and text all just work really well here, honestly, I love it. It's a great job. 9.5/10.
Bangel:
I really appreciate the amount of effort you've put into this, and from what you started with, making it bigger and increasing the quality, you've done a great job, using a few tricks here and there to make it look so seamless. However, I just find it a little, boring? I don't really like the item on the right, perhaps I would like to see more of the actual image, and a little bit of vibrancy here. 8/10
Neko:
This is nice and creative. I love the dots you use, they're just so... artsy, hehe. The border is bold in a way, but fitting and is really nice. I like the background. The text is bold again, but that's what I like about this icon. It stands out, but in a good way. I don't like it as much as your previous icon, but nonetheless, heh, I like it very much, it does look great. 9/10.
Good luck everyone!
