Got it!

Went to the AC every day.
Some of the stuff was in my SDB, some wasn't.
I may have watched all the animations, but I think there were a couple days when it was slow loading and I didn't (at least before I clicked the prize button)
Did have a snowball in my inventory.

I did not complete a snow fairy quest in Dec.
I did not have any of the speculated about avatars as my current av.

It does seem like AC every day is at least part of the requirements, though like others, I'm sure I did that last year and didn't get it then...

Or could it be that Neopets has the same criteria but changed the way they track if you have gone or had a glitch last year that marked a lot of people as not going. I seem to recall there was something about being able to go over and over last year on one day. I did not do that or hear about it until later so I don't know if it was just a rumor. But if true it would seem that the database did not mark you as having went which would explain why a lot of people are getting it this year and not last. If true that is.

That still doesn't explain how some people who didn't go every day got the sidebar.

There do not seem to be that many that get it that way. So one theory could be, and I realize this is reaching, that most people have to meet requirements but a few get it random anyway. I seem to recall a few events that you can get a certain way but can also be random. Although somewhat farfetched it would explain why this has not been figured out. Likely I'm wrong but it was just a thought.

It has nothing to do with pet ages. Last year I collected every day and didn't get it, and my youngest pet was 1136 days old (over 3 years). My others were all older. I got it this year, but I didn't do anything different except play a game of Ice Cream Machine and watch all the animations fully, plus have some snowballs in my inventory. None of those really seems to matter. I didn't change any petpets or anything.

I honestly don't remember whether I got any REs at all, though, wait a minute, I think I may have gotten an RE while I was at the advent calendar believe it or not. I forget what it was though.

No snow fairie quest, no snow avatar, no snowy pet. No snow related games except possibly I did the hangman game- can't think what the name is.

All pets are above happy, but are not at max hp's. None were hungry. Didn't own a snow paint brush. Using Altador theme. All pets have petpets. All pets above a year old. I did snowager every day at least once and several times the scratchcard there.

0 is consiterd even by most people.I think that you also had to have collected every day.

I think that instead of making us wait another year and come up with the same inconslusive results, they should just outright tell us how to get the damn thing. It's not like we have 300+ sidebars like we do avs. There's what, less than 10 at the moment? In how many years? I understand that they have to go through and redo all the text for each of the languages, but how long could that possibly take? They could just use the icons for navigation if it's really an issue. Why do we still not have any plain colored sidebars after all this time? It's just stupid not to tell us how to get it considering the invisible hoops we have to jump through.
