Lab Ray and Pet Homepage

Since I (finally) bought the lab ray a couple of months ago, I've been tracking the changes to my lab pet. I was listing the changes by putting the info on my main user lookup page. Worked great for a while, but there's the 4000 character limit which has pretty much run out (unless I change how I'm listing the info). So, I figured next best place would be the lab pet's homepage. However, I'm concerned that I might lose all the history when the pet's species changes. It looks like whenever the lab ray changes the species, the pet's homepage changes to the default page for that species. I have never changed the petpage from the default, though... My the questions are:

Does anyone know if the pet's homepage is always reset to default if the pet's species is changed by the lab ray?
If so, is there a way to prevent it from defaulting when the lab ray causes a species change?

Don't worry. If you make any change to the petpage, it will remain so for the rest of eternity and all your records will stay there no matter how many times the pet itself changes.

Right now it only changes because it is still at it's default mode, so whenever you change anything about the page, it willl stop changing.

Edit: I tracked the first 40 days after getting mine and was less than happy.
Lucky for me things have improved, but stopped keeping track.
