I say "LOL" sometimes, but mostly a bit sarcastically.
I also say "BRB", but only to geeky people who'll know what it means... and
"for the win""oh em gee" and "ORLY??" occasionally too
Edit: Come to think of it, I guess I like the ones that you can actually pronounce as word/s (eg. "BRB" = "burrrb"), because it's annoying to have to say the spelled-out ones (eg. "FTW").
I never did understand the whole FTW thing...in fact, i
still don't

I don't use chatspeak offline. In my opinion, that's absolutely disturbing. If I saw someone using chatspeak offline, I'd think they were a complete moron. It's even worse than online. *shudders*
My seventh grade social studies teacher once told us not to use chatspeak in our essays, because some people had done that. I was just sitting there, completely shocked, thinking of how ashamed I was to be sitting in this room with all these idiots. I'm serious.
Chatspeak in general, in ANY circumstance, makes me cringe. A very small number of phrases are okay in IM, and an even smaller number in forums, but that's it.
Once again, my personal opinion.
its bad enough to have chatspeak online, but its even worse if its being said in real life. i don't mind if its every once and a while, as a joke, or whatever, but it disturbs me when people pronounce chatspeak in real life, much less in formal papers and stuff for school. im a junior in HS and even now, as i like a classmate's papers, im scared at the ammount of chatspeak, lack of spelling, and abundance of errors. as for IM and furoms, i dont care if you dont use a period, or apostrophe, but i do expect you to be able to type an entire word out. is it really that much more time consuming to type "you" instead of "u" or "why" instead of "y"? is it really THAT much more time saving? i dont think so. its rediculous. anyhow, as i feel like im just ranting on and on, i'll stop now and return to catching up on the 800 or so posts made within the last month or so that i missed
