I went to this event held today at a park and nearby was a small forest. My friends and I entered it and we ended up getting scratched and pricked by bushes/plants which were later revealed to us as poison ivy. Now does anyone know how to get rid of the immense stinging in my wrist and two knuckles? My knuckles are turning a dark colour and wrist has bumps on it.

Camomile lotion is supposed to do it well. Interestingly, I was the only person wholly unnafected by poison ivy when me and some other kids at a wierd grown-up party were exploring the forest. Aloe vera is also supposed to be good.

I read in an article that putting the infected area under hot water for about 10-15 minutes will work. I'll try that before any cream.

Aloe vera and the aforementioned lotion work well. All I can suggest aside from that is don't scratch it. It'll just hurt more and you'll risk spreading it.

EDIT: And yes, letting it soak in warm/hot water should help.

'ey Ammer, try soaking it some water for a good 10 minutes, Afterwards, follow Eo's advice with the Camomile lotion. That stuff works wonders.

I soaked it in water for about 10 minutes and it's less stingy now, I'll use the Aloe Vera cream but I don't have the Camoimile cream.

Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, Stinging Nettles, they all suck. But, its: calime lotion, cold water, no scratching. Avoid heat for the sake of not getting your skin irritating to no end.

Argh, be glad you're not allergic too it. And like everyone else has been saying, do not itch it. It might be hard to resist, but just try getting your mind off it. Also, I advise you to keep your hands away from your face because if poision ivy spreads onto your face then it can swell your eyes shut. Then it's really not fun.

Exactly, never, I mean never ever, EVER! Scratch your eyes or near them, my siter got poison ivy in here eyes and could hardly open them, and even when she did the sun would irritate them to no end.

You could try some hings like cupping (using a glass dome with no air applyed to your skin) to try and suck the problems off...but then again i'd just go with the aloe vera and constant bathing.

Ouch, that's gotta suck. I've never come across poison ivy, so unfortuantely I have no suggestions for you

Theres a whatzits leaf... I can't remember the name just what it looks like.

My old primary/kindergarden teacher always used to get this leaf for us whenever we got stung by it, it was green... erm kinda curly edges in spikes. But yea... that works really well actually

Dock leaves!!! i cant remember what they look liek to describe them, but they often grow nearby.... or is that stinging nettles... :S

Looking on the web the things i've found are:
~ Hot water
~ Baking soda in warm water
~ Washing it ASAP wth alcohol to remove the poison (but dont go near it again as the alcohol removes protection if you touch the plant again)
~ calomine or anything else to dry out the blisters

basically wash it asap, and then try to dry out the blisters with calomine or baking soda, or sommit like that.

I speak from experience. Having your eye swelled shut for any reason isn't fun.


So don't scratch your face. If you get the urge to scratch your have, using your other hand, pinch your leg. It makes you focus on where you pinched, so not as much as your urge to scratch. ^_^
