That's a bit silly - and I can't believe the teacher even wrote that letter and sent it to the dude's parents lol.

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.

Thats horrible! Its like brainwash. "The truth is not important, believe what we tell you"
Pfffttt our school encourages students to defy teachers when we know we are right. If we are wrong we learn it and remember our mistake. Thats one of the best ways of learning something in order to remember it.

What I find funny is that fact that the name of the parent has been blacked out, but the name of the teacher has been left out for all to see.

Teachers like that should be... well.. fired? For being so stubborn.

The problem is, when English/Film/Media/Art teachers are spewing forth verbal sewerage, it's much harder.

That's just stupid... I've always been told to tell the teacher they were wrong if they said something that wasn't true, and when I have done that (or someone else in the class), the teacher didn't throw a fit.

Oh my gosh. That's just rediculous. Giving someone a detention because they were right? It's bad enough when the teacher's wrong, but when they won't accept it when corrected, won't even check, that's just crazy.

Haha, I never say anything in class to contradict teachers anymore.

The only time I did was last year- a math teacher referenced the "imaginary plane" and I corrected him- it's a complex plane.

I never do that now, for medical reasons. I almost did, when my govt. teacher said that a particualr person was a senator, but they were still just senator-elect.

That is so funny. I correct teachers sometimes, if they are wrong. If one of my teachers reacted like that Id laugh in their face, not to be disrespectful but because it would just be so illogical.

He was right but he should follow me like a mindless sheep.

What a beautiful lesson to teach the youth of today.

Dear Mr Hilliker,

You were wrong. He was right. Your actions in writing that letter show a blatant lack of intelligence and the complete inability to admit defeat.

Please see to it that you learn simple Maths as 1.6 > 1.0

Regards,
Alex's Mother

O.o

In my school, it's actually pretty hard to get a detention.

And it's funny when everyone corrects the teacher at once.

AGREE!!!

I don't think there are detentions at my school- just 'see me after class', etc.

I've corrected a teacher one or two times, but not in a while- usually they correct themselves.

I'm feeling quite sorry for that student, though.

can't find the sig from this set, so instead, you get a <3 .

I don't think that's a real letter--it's way too self-parodying and smart quotes weren't in wide use in 1994.

Still, I've had way too many teachers like that over the years. Too many (which is to say, more than 0) teachers view the whole thing as a power trip rather than a learning experience. It hurts the good ones, because students can get conditioned to just accept what the teacher says and not display any intellectual curiosity.

I corrected teachers a lot back when I was in public school. I was generally considered either a model student or a trouble-making brat. Never got anything sent home about correcting teachers, but it was brought up at parent-teacher conferences. My mom usually took me out for ice cream after hearing that. :)
