Idol Gives Back...wow it looks like they're actually gonna do something useful with their $2.5 billion. Actually, this will be good. I know a certain *someone* who will be happy about Bono.

I know who that *someone* is, and personally I think they'll be annoyed that Bono's going on American Idol. :P

But it doesn't matter because it's Bono, and he's helping the starvin' children. =)

Borat? I thought this was a family-friendly show, lol. Gwen Stefani? Eh...if she performs a No Doubt song I'll be happy.

How much money can this actually generate though? How much do they get per call?

I like how they conveniently left this information out. :P I'm guessing they're still deciding. I wouldn't be surprised if it were only 5 cents or so, though.

Still even if it is 5 cents, they'd be getting with 30 Million votes like they have been getting, the fund would get.. *calculates* around 15 mil...did I do that right? .5 times 30,000,000 yeah I think that's right. That's a lot of money for Africa.

5 cents is 0.05, so in fact, they're donating 1.5 million dollars if they receive their regular 30 million votes. (I assume it'll be more though, due to the fact that this is a special event).

Oops, you're right that would be .05 XDD I put 50 cents. So much for math skills. Still 1.5 is a lot, but I think you're right, It will be more.

I'm in the American Idol lj community, and they had a poll about what order people wanted the contestants to be voted off (it's not really the predicted order of who will REALLY go off, more of the 'ideal' order):

12. Sanjaya Malakar (first one out)
11. Haley Scarnato
10. Brandon Rogers
9. Phil Stacey
8. Stephanie Edwards
7. Chris Richardson
6. Gina Glocksen
5. Jordin Sparks
4. Chris Sligh
3. Lakisha Jones
2. Blake Lewis
1. Melinda Doolittle (winner)

I think that Stephanie should be #5, Jordin #6, and Gina #8 (As much as I like Gina, I can't imagine her doing well during the theme nights) Also, Blake and Chris Sligh should be switched, I really don't see why people are making such a big deal about Blake. However, I can imagine him getting votes from pre-teen/teenage girls.

Some people have started calling Chris Richardson "Federlake." Heh, it's a good nickname. I'll probably call him too until he actually finds his own style.

Anyone else hear what Simon said? He said he'd quit if Sanjaya won. I really hope that people aren't that stupid though...plus I doubt Simon would leave with the $36 million per year he makes off the show.

Plus, I doubt that America will let Sanjaya win. I mean, they've been pretty good with past winners so far.

All we can do is pray that Sanjaya gets booted out. Nothing against him as a person...his voice just isn't strong enough...Poor Sundance

Me either, his performances are too gimmicky and corny and don't rely enough on his voice.

Going to have to disagree. I think Blake brings in an element we haven't seen before on American Idol. Songs that are interesting and creative and are definitley not overplay. Seriously, I don't want to hear another person sing another Aretha Franklin song.

Plus, if you've heard of the 'Harry Potter Rap' .. Blake had a hand in that. It's awesome!

Not really.

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are arguably the only winners to ever do well in the industry.

America's good at kicking out other talents like Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, Katharine Mcphee and the like who have done well in the industry. While I may hate Clay Aiken's music with a passion, anyone can see he has been successful in his career as a runner up. Even more so than Ruben, the actual winner.

But arguably, they've never let the likes of Kevin Kovais and Anthony Federov win either. Besides, even though Ruben isn't doing very well, he's still better than Sanjaya at this point. (Based on Sanjaya's performances)

(PLEASE DON'T QUOTE THIS...IT'S LONG!)

According to Wiki, these are the 10 top selling Idol alumni (winners bolded, runners-up italicized. These are U.S. sales only.)

1. Kelly Clarkson: 8.31 million (Before Breakaway came out, Clay was ahead of her since her first album didn't sell as well)
2. Carrie Underwood: 4.99 million
3. Clay Aiken: 4.53 million
4. Ruben Studdard: 2.42 million
5. Fantasia: 1.99 million
6. Chris Daughtry: 1.8 million (I think he could EASILY beat Fantasia and Ruben)
7. Bo Bice: 0.8 million
8. Taylor Hicks: 0.659 million (He's not that marketable. He was a good performer on Idol, but just has an average voice.)
9. Josh Gracin: 0.647 million
10. Kellie Pickler: 0.453 million

Other runners-up/notable contestants:
William Hung: 295,000 (This just makes me laugh.)
Katharine McPhee:: 235,493 (William Hung even sold more than her!)
Kimberley Locke: 211,000
Diana Degarmo:: 200,000 (Dropped)
Justin Guarini: 150,000 (Dropped)
Tamyra Gray: 122,000 (Dropped)

As you can see, it's not about who wins, it's about what genre of music they make and how marketable they are.

I personally think Carrie Underwood will eventually surpass Kelly Clarkson, that's just my opinion. It all depends whether Kelly/Carrie's next album sells well.

Carrie Underwood is very, very, very marketable. :P
