Pet food is making pets sick. Be sure your cat or dog's food is not one on the list.

This is horrible, just over three months of food recalled, and so many popular brands. Makes me glad that we don't feed our pets wet food, but its horrible to think how many animals have gotten sick.

I laugh at Iams and Eukanuba. They test on animals (I dont mean taste tests either) and still they're products are recalled. Idiots.

Same here. I'm glad my little kitty eats dry food. But it's just awful how many are going to get sick and die because some of them might not notice or find out in time. It makes me wonder how the food was infected in the first place.

So is this just wet food? I sure hope so, because in the past couple of days one of my dogs got sick, but after we took him to the vet they gave him some medicine and he's feeling better.

(I wasn't surprised my other dog didn't get sick because she has an iron stomach. :P)

What the heck? XD
I laugh at them too, because Iams is supposedly better, and then they go and make almost all of the generics.

We had a couple cans of the Laura Lynn food. They're now sitting on my dad's printer, waiting until they'll be used in court. :roflol:

Popular brand name dog foods don't often mean that they're good dog foods. Dogs like people shouldn't be eating a lot of preservatives and chemically based products. The closer to natural food you can get, often the better.

This doesn't surprise me at all. Often one or two plants will make various different 'brands' of food at once, and dog food is only a different product. At the dairy I worked at they made about 6 different kinds of yogurt, and they were all pretty much the same (if not the same), simply with a different label slapped upon them.

Theres a PETA website too but I decided to reference that one instead since PETA doesn't have a very good reputation, although the above site isn't put together as well.

Anyways I think I heard the source of the problem had something to do with the whey in the products.

I know. :(

They should test it out to make sure it is good for comsumption by animals. But they don't even do it with human food, so I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. But I hope the dogs and cats feel better, if they survive that is.

There's an update on the recall. Apparently it was some kind of rodent poison.

Quote:
ALBANY, N.Y. — Rat poison has been found in pet food blamed for the deaths of at least 16 cats and dogs, a spokeswoman for the State Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday.

Spokeswoman Jessica Chittenden would not identify the chemical or its source beyond saying it was a rodent poison.

ABC News reported it was aminopterin that may have been on imported wheat used in the pet food. Aminopterin is used to kill rats in some countries but is not registered for that use in the United States, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. The chemical, also a cancer drug, is highly toxic in high doses.
