Due to some screenshots being shrunk recently, I've added a guide to screenshots to the first post, which is also posted below. Please follow the guide to prevent shrunken screenshots.
There's been a rash of screenies uploaded incorrectly recently, so here's a wee guide to taking screenshots and correctly saving them.
- Firstly, to screenshot something, press the "Prnt Scr" button on your keyboard (NB: Key may be labelled differently, it should represent "Print Screen" somehow)
- Next, open Paint or another image altering programme.
- Paste the screenshot with Ctrl+V (or Right Click -> Paste)
- Edit the screenshot as you see fit (IE: Crop it to the required max of 500 pixels wide)
- Save the screenshot by selecting "Save As"
- Change the title to something like "fruitmachine"
- DO NOT SIMPLY TYPE ".jpg" AFTER THIS
- Click the arrow next to the drop down list.
- Select .PNG or .GIF (or .JPG if you must, though really it should be saved for saving photos only, not images) from the drop-down list
- Save image.
- Go to an image host (http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.photobucket.com for example)
- Upload your image
- Post it here.
For comparison, this is what your screenshot will end up looking like if you simply add something like ".jpg" or ".png" to the end of the filename
Incorrectly done
And here's what it will look like as a correctly saved .PNG image
Correctly done
Note that even the incorrect version is not as small as they often turn out. Photobucket is notorious for shrinking poorly saved files.
