Think about it. What is the pet doing in the pound in the first place? Often it is in the pound because it is unwanted by its previous owner. So why leave it in the pound for someone too lazy to earn their own pets to adopt?
By turning the pet into a green uni, there will be less painted and rare pets sitting on peoples accounts that didnt earn them.

«But some people work hard to lab pets so they can repound them«

While this is a nice and sweet idea, it IS encouraging laziness in people who are "incapable" of earning their own pets.
I am SORRY, but there is NO such thing as "not being able to earn your own pet". EVERYONE can earn their own pet, and if you TRULY CANNOT earn a single neopoint, then maybe it is time you switch to another site to play.

2 of the main points of the group.

There only purpose is so no-one can have a painted pet unless they earn it. Who is anyone to judge who can have what pet?

TNT put the pound there for the very reason of adopting pets - whether they are painted or unpainted and for a group of users to backseat mod about the pets is wrong.

This group has taken it on themselves to dictate to the rest of Neo that you cannot have a painted from the pound because in their eyes, not TNT, you have't deserved it.

The old adage of a painted pet being a status symbol doesn't hold up anymore because of how many painted pets are in the pound.

To me, status is what the whole account is - age, trophy/plots, avatars, shop/gallery, neohome and finally pets.

I mean, if you see a 5 month account with 4 painted pets, you know they have gotten them from the pound, and in due course they will probably go back.

A painted pet is just that - painted, it has no real value. All the status in a pet is from its statistics - how much you have put into its training - and once it's there no-one can take it away (except the lab).

So if this group was so against the lazy people than maybe they should all by a lab map and start zapping away any unwanted stats. ;)

Seems petty and mean-spirited to me. It's a movement whose stated intention is to keep other people from (1) getting nice pets and (2) giving nice pets to other people.

I've gotten some pretty paint jobs from my lab, from a FFQ, and from other people who gave me painted pets that they've zapped. In fact, only a few of my pets are hand-painted. Guess I don't "deserve" my pets according to the GUP, huh?

Thanks to all who clarified things for me. Even if you weren't doing so for me specifically. :P

Eh, whatever, as long as they're not sniping pets with a program, I quite honestly don't care either way. I'm not going to change the way I've been playing just because of this.

To be honest - and I mean no offense - I'm really surprised at how strongly people disapprove of the GUP, and how seriously we are debating the ethicality of their intents.

I still think the GUP is great. Not because I agree with their mission statement, mind you; I think the whole idea is a thin cover for the fact that they are morphing mainly to go against the flow, to make mischief, to get a reaction.

But for me, I think this is a very funny, creative, and ultimately HARMLESS exploit. I'll bet you even the tons of anti-GUP threads on the neoboards are deriving at least a little entertainment from jumping into this great "controversy," that there is a relish to taking a side in the debate because it's something new, novel and fresh to talk about and perhaps act about.

So, frankly I don't understand the sentiment that the GUP are mean, even malicious. Mischievous, cheeky, and attention-seeking for sure, but malicious? I think that's taking it too seriously.

The GUP do not and will never have enough numbers to truly alter the way the Pound works. I think we all agree that it is perfectly fair for any player taking a pet out of the Pound to do with it as they wish. Maybe it's nicer of them to give the pet to someone who really wants a painted pet, or to give the pet back to its owner if it was a failed transfer - but they have every right to choose whatever they want. Including painting it into a green uni, just because they feel like it. The GUPers have the exact same chances at getting a painted pet as any other player. So you can fear GUPers ruining your transfer or ruining the pet that you have labbed for re-adoption - but really, there is an equal chance that the pet will be lost in some other way, like a random pound surfer getting it on a whim and then abandoning their account or being frozen. In fact, the latter scenario is probably more common.

I can understand that some people find the GUP annoying; indeed, I'm fairly certain that their purpose is to kick up a fuss on the boards and annoy a lot of people. But nonetheless, I still feel that they are harmless, and should be taken lightly.

So I guess I am both pro-GUP and pro-GUZP! I root for both sides and I wish you both much success. Have fun - it's just a game.

Honestly, people can do whatever they want as long as they don't break any rules. If these people enjoy wasting their neopoints on scores of green uni morphing potions, that's fine. If that's what makes Neopets enjoyable for them, so be it. The part of all this that gets my dander up is the fact that SOME of these people are only participating in this because they feel that anyone who owns a painted pet they didn't paint themselves is lazy and undeserving. I think that mindset is rude and offensive. Who are they to tell the rest of us what we do or do not deserve? I'm not here to learn moral life lessons. I agree that working for what I want is important, but these people are forcing their opinions on the Neopian public.

kk, so i just talked about this with my guild, i have a few people with lab rays willing to support this. if the GUZP is actually going to happen, you have EKoN's support ;)

lol, i'm completely relaxed about this :P
i've just always loved zapping and pounding, and if i can help out by just zapping green unis? why the heck not?

Wed Mar 21, 2007 11:38 am

Oh it wasn't a personal attack, I wasn't paying anyone out. I just reckon it's not worth arguing about.

Come on everyone.

At any rate, Green Uni MPs went from 10k up to 18k. Anyone think they will go up more?

PM or NEOMAIL if you wish to joing the DJRP. Important cause. Or you could not PM me, and just relax about it and reckon I shouldn't be so spartan about entering my project, or just relax and not think about it. It's all good.

I know that. I live in Ireland. =D
To be honest I thought it was a nice fluke for the weekend. Maybe some people decided to make more of a fuss about it arround that time due to the green? Either way, it cheered me up no end seeing that in the NT.

It's not exactly helping anyone though is it. It's just the GUP but backwards. I doubt it will change the neoworld. As the GUP won't either, I just personally think it's a laugh.

Zombie has the right idea!

I've allways zapped and pounded pets myself. But only because I've got two lab rays doing nothing in my accounts. I usually arrange a transfer with someone though. But when I drop them in the pound, who am I to complain if someone turns it into a rather fetching Green Uni. Chances are his stats are great!

*Joins DJRP and is so relaxed he forgets to fill in the form. But that's cool.* 8)

Wed Mar 21, 2007 1:15 pm

DJRP accepts VM into its cool club but won't get up to say hello cause It's cool he can work it out for himself, and you know, whatever. 8)

Wed Mar 21, 2007 1:31 pm

You know, Ive noticed more painted pets getting 'Stuck' in the pound lately. Maybe it could be so GUP doesnt get too out of hand? *shrug*

I'd like to join the DJRP 8)

Wed Mar 21, 2007 1:33 pm

*VM think DJRP is so relaxed he might miss his plane later. So he's going to drink coffee, which he doesn't usually do so yeah woah butteflies and GUPs ahh, green things.. tea.. flowers!* =P

Or maybe all the pets just joined DJRP. I know mine would. It'd get them out of training for a few days!

PPT is a place where people are allowed to whine and whinge about neopets, posting something like this is utterly disrespectful to those people who want to be upset about something. Please keep any further posts on topic or else this thread will be locked.

Edit: Thread is unlocked under the stipulation that it will remain on topic.

i personaly think its amusing.

do people think this is going to be a long term thing? i feel this will be big news for a few months but then die down to a few random painted pets being changed to green uni's.
