I didn't play every day when I started on Neopets, so I missed the April Fools for 2005 (the 50 new pets), but thought last years NeoCharge was quality. Lots of people panicking on the the boards, others threatening to stop using the site. Exactly the response they were after!
Unfortunately, this year's effort was frankly poor in comparison.

The news is depressing. There isn't a joke or anything. I guess Neopets has become so commercial that they no longer have time for actual fun news like they used to. It seems neopets is changing ever time I go there, and all the fun reasons I used to play are slowly going missing.

No offense, but lay off. They get Sundays off work. Just because they want users to have fun doesn't mean that they don't get a vacation. Besides that, last year a bunch of people threatened to quit because it slowed their computer and it was stupid, or they thought it was real.

IMO, people who treaten to quit over a stupid joke should just go already.

Last year's joke (NeoCharge) was pretty good. It was sort of suicidal for TNT, however. It probably had the effect of greatly reducing the number of site clicks. Not the best thing for a site that generates revenue based on the number of site clicks.

But, really, that doesn't mean they can't come up with another good joke. Or program it to be active on a certain date.

Well I for one am really dissappointed with TNT. (And enough about the 'it was a Sunday' thing, they could have easily programmed it and made it beforehand!!!)

I mean, lets see what we've had in previous years.

Crazy makeovers to the pets, 'revamp' of the site to become more kid friendly, 50 new pets, and of course NeoCharge.

Each of those featured on the front page and totally affected all users. Everyone talked about it for weeks afterwards, hell the people were so annoyed about the 50 new pets that Neo let us vote to make one real (which I'm still so angry about, I wanted a Llamameah, not a Gnorbu!).

And this year.... the Battledome closes down... ....

I mean, rather than target it to users of the entire site... they targetted it to fool the Battledomers?! I didn't even KNOW about it until people here found it. And even then, it wasn't funny, or scary, it was just plain boring.

Now I'm not saying that its TNT's solemn duty to make us a funny April Fool's Joke. But when, for the past 4 years, they've made really elaborate jokes (I mean, imagine all the effort drawing those revamped pets, and the new site lookup, and all those 50 pets, and creating the programming for NeoCharge) and then this year they have one single page saying the battledome is closing down... Its sorta killing their own reputation

But anyways, I guess we'll just have to wait for next April Fools Day!

Yes I have to say I wasn't impressed with the joke. I wouldnt have known it was happening but for here. I never battle. I mean I actualy went on neo with the 'oh it's April 1st what joke is TNT pulling?' and..... nothing on the main page.... I was saddened. They always put up a decent joke... I'm not saying it has to be all elaborate but DECENT would have made me smile and laugh. But no joy for me

I feel sorry for TNT, because they have fallen into the trap of starting off big and now they have nowhere to go.

Everyone seems to think that TNT can outdo a joke every year, but how can anyone live up to that kind of pressure?

So the Battledome joke didn't appeal to everyone, at least they did a joke. It is not like they have to!

Yes, compared to recent jokes it was not as popular, but really, how many actually fall for the April Fool's Day jokes anyway?

I have never fallen for them, I found the aftermath of them funnier with everyone on the boards threatening to leave if charged (anyone would have thought, TNT were talking of real money!) and the do-over of Neo into a *shudder* more kid-friendly site was actually scarey inhindsight (just look at the games room now).

We as users are falling into the same trap - we get a great plot or funny joke or new avatars and everything is right with the world but when we don't get them as regular we all feel TNT has let us down. The site is what it is - some things we appeal to us and other things wont.

I'd have to agree with Daze. It can't be something as big as neocharge every year. Sometimes jokes will be amazing, and sometimes they'll just be kind of cute. Besides, I doubt anybody could come up with anything to top neocharge. That was just priceless.

I didn't actually really like Neocharge. I wasn't all that impressed... it would have been better if they had actually made it go along with all sidebar themes. Heh, it didn't blend will with my Haunted Woods theme. I liked the 50 pets better.

Heh. Admittedly, Neocharge had me going until I realized what day it was, and then I laughed very hard and tried to rack up as much charge as I could for kicks - especially by visiting petpages (at 75np a view). It would've been funnier if they awarded prizes for those who racked up the most charge...
I think if they had closed the training schools, I might have been more likely to notice (aside from finding out here), but I'm sure it was a good pullover on the battlers. Honestly, this year I almost forgot it *was* April fool's because I was so busy.
