The redraws look feminine because they're all done with more curves than angles. People tend to equate curved lines with girls and strait lines/angles with boys. They also simplified a lot of the detail. I think Smudge said that it looks like the new pets might be aminated. I think so to they've all had their details simpified in the redraw (clothing details removed, less spots, color shading, like the lutari and all the rainbow pets).

Well, I wasn't really referring to their curves, more to the fact that quite a few of them have really long eyelashes.

Oh that. Thats cause they decided to give all the female neopets eylashes. I think they might have done something to the male neope,ts on colours that were always more feminine like Faerie, But I'm not sure I remember a pic a ways back with big eybrows on so we'd all know it was a boy.

We should have a choice on whether we want to customize them or not. All those years of trying to get awesome pets and they then devolve. To me the artwork has taken a turn for the worse. Unless they plan on redrawing all the pets to their amazing former glory in those new positions, I will honestly have no interest in the site.

amarise, I feel your pain when it comes to the royal girl kyrii. That was one of my two dream pets and I'm not quite done mourning over her. Doubt I'll ever be. I mean... it now looks more like an usuki doll with a very bad hairdo rather than a kyrii

As for my other dream pet...

Image

Exhibit A in the circle pose has this amazing wicked smile that instantly won me over, plus I find the hair extremly nifty.

Image

Exhibit B looks like she's suffering from a really bad case of hydrocephalus.

EDIT: I've just thought of something - I went and checked some of the pages on neo where you can see all the pets in a certain color, like Darigan Minions http://www.neopets.com/medieval/minions.phtml etc., and it still has the old artwork. Not that it means anything...

Aw, I just checked out that petpage and noticed that one of my dream pets, the plushie Grundo, is not longer adorable enough to be a dream pet. Another of my favorite pets, the Darigan Aisha, lost all its charm. I wonder if TNT realized that many people chose to paint their pets a certain way specifically because it looked fantastic in it's pose. Halloween and Pirate Shoyrus looked like they were flying through the air, grey pets looked absolutely droopy, plushie pets looked squishy and/or tossed around, etc. Some of the Grey pets are so boring now that they just look painted Silver.

One thing I'm going to request of TNT is that they change some of the eyecolors back the way they were. Its such a simple little detail, and I dont understand why they changed it for a bunch of pets. Its strange to have previously had a purple-themed Royalgirl Draik with nice pretty sky blue eyes, and then have to see the redraw with glaringly clashy bulging red eyes. I'd also request that they get rid of the weird eyelids on Krawks, and make eyelashes customizable (I want to take the dumb things off!) Darigan pets should have the evilness restored too. I saw a good many that were smiling friendly or no longer had creepy slitted eyes in the redraw.

The biggest problem I have about every single pet is their size. Why are they so much smaller!? Looking at that petpage, it felt like I had to squint at all the redraws. They lost so much detail, and the only way to see decent sized versions is to wait for the flash stuff to load on petlookups. For some reason, Korbats (and the baby pets) are practically miniscule.

I got my first fountain faerie quest a couple weeks ago, and after several days of thinking, I decided to go with a Pirate Xweetok. Bought the potion and used the quest prize:

A week later, the rascal pirate personality is gone. So is the peg-leg:

...I want a refund. They took away the things that MADE the pet.

Yeah, one thing I liked about the old pets is that artists would sometimes make a few pets that were not colorfills. They would have their own unique art and some of them had some awesome facial expression that made them look evil or michievious or something. Now all pets seem to be carbon copys or cookie cutter pets. They all have the same expressions and body shapes. Only the color is different, and it really doesn't matter what color your pet is, because it basically looks just the same as another pet, just a differernt color. It is like you make a sim or something on the sims, and you put a lot of different colored skin on the same person. They all look the same, just a different color. It gets boring.

Also the pet links are not predictable anymore. That is, is impossible to search for new pet colors before they are released when it looks like pets.neopets.com/cp/djswxx34/1/2.gif

I mean, who can predict what numbers they will use?

But I guess that is the point. They don't WANT us to see the new pets before they are released. That way we can't say 'THAT LOOKS AWESOME or That looks horrible."

Oh yeah, this is amusing

Image
It looks like it is so uncomfortable. Like "I hate you for this." Which is probably the same look you'd get from a real dog if you put that on it's head."

Is everyone 100% positive that painting a pet today that TNT has deemed drastic enough to give old owners options will stick the new owner with new art?

Ug some of the grey pets are horrible. They took off the poor halloween kyriis tail! The halloween yurble just looks like a mean green yurble, it doesn't look like the tax beast any more. It just looks ticked off. The ice bruce isn't an ice lolly anymore. It just looks like a red bruce with a melting neck time on. The grey yurble almost looks cheerful. None of the "the world is ending" look it had before. The tyrannian korbat lost it's beak.

My lab pet turned into a Grey Jetsam, but is still being shown as a white jetsam...

The seemed to get rid of all the really good grey art, and they gave users the option to keep some of the fuglier ones.

I want to know whoever decided the character of the individual pets was worth losing so we could put pants on our pets. I would kick them in the tush for sure.

I know, how can pets be original any more when they are all basically the same shape? They have lost their uniqueness. And even when they are painted now, they are basically just a pet with clothing on. They'll still have the same pose as other pets and the same goofy smile.

Snow wocky is the worst one, they messed the face up.

Oh how quickly I am proven wrong. I was about to say that the Snow Wocky couldn't possibly be as bad as the Lutari redraw. Oh, I was wrong, wrong, wrong. Did that lemon-headed wocky have a stroke? What the heck is up with only having a face on the far right side of the head? Ick!
