Snow wocky is the worst one, they messed the face up.

whoa...I guess the Lutari isn't the worst of the redraws afterall...

It was designed by Piccaso, how dare you insult art.

How to search for new pet colors:

If you have a neo colors account please inform the webmaster for me.
This only works for the chocolate cybunny I think, but maybe this is the way they'll start linking to pets.

No need to insult Picasso like that. *sniff*

There isn't an image for a grey aisha, do you think if I paint my aisha grey right now it'll be in the old art?

Mon Apr 30, 2007 12:32 am

? I don't know if I would risk it if I were you.

Does anyone have a list of pets that got the option of NOT being Converted? The new Bori looks awful so I obviously kept mine in the old style.

EDIT: Also, does anyone have an image of the new Mutant Mynci? I got a Transmog potion a while back but I may now sell it if the art is really bad.

My lab pet Zanvi is a mutant Mynci right now..I'll look up the picture..

Nevermind. I'll just link you.

I can't figure the new image system out. :/

Thanks varii. :) I checked Zanvi's page. It is perhaps one of the only pets that looks good with a fist amazingly. Still not the pet for me, though.

The pet lookup image is now in Flash but the userlookups are PNGs. It seems like they are still working out some kinks. I notice on the user lookup the Mynci is Blue. May I politely suggest that TNT was not prepared! :P

I think the fairy pets got it the worst. . . a lot of them were in a very active and engaging (some even flying) position and now they're standing straight up and down with a clenched fist. Some of my favorite faerie pets. . .. are just ugly!

edit: It's not so much that the art is bad. It's actually not bad art at all and some of the pets I think did get an improvement - what I cringe about is just cookie-cutter, non-engaging poses.

edit 2: NOOOOOOO nooooooo not the plushie kougra!!!!!!!!! that was pretty much my dream pet. . .so much for that. .

Mon Apr 30, 2007 2:17 am

Okay. My thoughts are pretty much the same as anyone.

The actual pet redesigns AREN'T THAT BAD for the most part. Minus the fists. Some of them are an improvement, and some are worse, but most are equally as good as before.

It's the redraw colours, especially Royal, Faerie and Darigan (but also Maraquan and others) that are HORRIBLE. Absolutely horrible. And it's not really fair that a) people are not given a choice to keep the old ones for some of them and b) people will be missing out on the customization aspect.

There should be a way to do both. There probably is a way, it would just require a lot more work (When releasing something for, say, Kaus to wear, they would have to draw it all once for the normal Kaus and then a few more times to fit the Maraquan, Darigan, etc). But we deserve to have our cake and eat it to. I hate the customization aspect, just because it takes the site into an undesirable direction. But it wouldn't be as bad if the AMAZING colours weren't affected. I mean, the Royal, Darigan and Faerie pets are HORRIBLE! They've lost everything that made them desirable.

My reactions to the revamped pets continue to be mixed - some I like, some I don't.

For example, I don't like ANY of the Grey redraws. imho they were hit worse than the Faerie or Darigan. Some even look HAPPY, fer pete's sake. Don't like the new Grey Gelert specifically. The old one looked heavy, weary, and everything about its anatomy conveyed this very well. The new one? Not at all. The ears aren't even drooping. The facial expression's been altered too much, doesn't look nearly as sad/cynical as before. Though I guess I should secretly be happy about this; instead of paying 3+ million NP for a Grey PB, I'll probably wind up spending only a few hundred thousand for a Gelert Transmog potion (once I'm done with labbing), since it came out of the revamps relatively unscathed.

On the flip side, I do have to say that the revamps gave some vitality to some pets who desperately needed it - the Scorchio, the Flotsam, the Elephante, and the Peophin (with the exception of Faerie, which thank God they allowed to stay the same) all look much, much better now. Scorchios in particular, that was just what they needed - better art that still stayed true to the basic features that defined the pet. I can see where people are coming from with their critiques on the new Elephante art, but I still prefer it to the old art, which was flat and quite frankly ugly for the most part.

I noticed that virtually all the pets look sleeker now. For some, that was a good thing. The Ogrin specifically looks more unified, somehow. But for colors that relied on texture for part of their appeal, such as Snow, Sketch, and Snot, it wasn't. This is also the reason I don't like the new Yurbles (they flattened out their nice furry manes :( ) and why I initially didn't like the Acara revamp a couple of years ago. Even though they were older pets who needed new art, they took out the curly texture in their fur.
Image
Compare that to the current Acara. Acaras are supposed to be a semi-aquatic species: I always thought the curly fur made it look as if it had just come out of the water and shook itself dry just before coming up to meet you. The new one took away some of that charm.

Anyway, I'm going to wait and see if they make some of the older art an option. Because no way am I going to paint Drilax Grey if all new Grey Gelerts are going to look like that from now on.

About that snow wocky...

It just looks like the eyes are over to the left far too much. Perhaps this is evidence of (BAD) layering? Possible blinking in the future?

Mon Apr 30, 2007 4:30 am

Somebody make a list of wearable items.
In my opinion the Scorchio redraw is awesome, but then again, that's just me...

Mon Apr 30, 2007 4:33 am

Rakumel, I agree completely on the Grey pets. Have you seen the new Grey Kougra? Prancing about HAPPILY. And my Werelupe...they decided to put him on all fours, but kept the shorts for absolutely NO reason. He doesn't look anything like a werewolf in the new version. I am so lucky they kept the old versions of both those pets, and if they ever take the old versions away I'm totally out of here.

And the Snow Wocky...Oh Mah Gawsh.
That's gotta be a mistake. No one would do that intentionally, right?

Right?

...Right???

Mon Apr 30, 2007 7:15 am

Excellent post Rakumel. I was saving towards a faerie lenny - that tail! So peacocky lol. And a faerie draik. Now, just look at the redraws... the draik looks like a plushie, and the lenny  'Nuff said. The fantastic tail is totally gone. Goooone!
