I'm impressed they managed to draw an Ogrin I actually like. However, I do think the staff is probably taking on too many things at once. Why they would start a new plot days after such a dramatic site change is beyond me.

This plot could quite possibly end up scrapped like last Sloth plot and the guild master's dinner (or whatever that puzzle was called).

Plots sometimes have real life references, but it isn't based on any one character.

Why would this plot be scrapped? It has only just began.

Why wouldn't TNT start a plot now? TNT have to work on more than one thing at a time, just because we have had a big change wouldn't change the fact that TNT were going to release a plot.

I realize he's probably not going to be an exact clone of Indiana, it just looks like he raided the guys closet. It's probably meant more as a homage, or something.

As for the plot being scrapped, there are bound to be glitches and other kinks in this new system. Putting the system into place is only half the work, people will want new clothing items and things that can actually be put onto our pets as well. They can't just morph every single species in the name of customization and then give us nothing (other than paintbrush clothing) to work with. Well, they could, but it would only upset the users more.

It just seems like horrible timing to me. If today were May 29, I wouldn't think anything of it, I might even be excited about this plot. But TNT seems to be taking on many big projects at once, and they don't exactly have a good track record of handling a lot of big things at once. Something will end up being neglected.

I doubt that the site changes will make the plot glitch.

We had some major glitches in the Altador Plot, but TNT worked on it and we kept going.

The Guildmaster's Dinner was scrapped for other reasons.

Well maybe this is a sign of things to come from tnt? They could've hired on more people or figured out a way to multi-task better. They might not get everything perfect and maybe they won't listen to users like they used to under there new plan. So this could be what we're going to expect from tnt in the future. Or maybe it's just a giant charade. Who knows? Just a thought. ;)

I don't mean glitches in the plot, I mean glitches in the new pet system.

If I were cynical, I'd say they deliberately planned to released the plot now in order to boost their pageviews after the site change, so they could proclaim how great everybody thought it was and how much more we use the site now.

...of course, I'm not the kind to be cynical

Yes, I know but you suggested that the plot would be scrapped due to glitches in the new system. But I don't see how that they could affect the plot to the point of it being scrapped.

There doesn't seem to be any major problems with the new site change, which I think we would have seen by now.

I'm suggesting that new glitches in the system, as well as making new items for the system, will take up too much of their time and then the plot will be dropped because they simply don't have the time for it.

And there have been some glitches in the new system. If I understand the situation correctly, that's why the pound is down right now.

Yes, the pound is down due to the new system, but the plot has still started. So obviously that hasn't affected anything else.

If any big glitch happened, TNT would work through it. I just don't see them stopping the plot. I am sure TNT would have the time for this plot.

You know what's sad?

The fact that I understood all of the linguistic terms. Hehe. And that they spelled archaeo-linguistics wrong. There's another "a" in there, guys.

The new plot totally has a ripoff of the Rosetta Stone in it, too.

EDIT: I don't think there will be any more glitchiness than usual.

Oooh! Good catch! I'm usually very cynical and did think about the "coincidence" of the new plot timing with the new site layout (and strangely that our pets can no longer appear sad), but I completely missed the pageview count angle.

Heh. My very first thought was the Rosetta Stone, too.

...I don't think it's a coincidence. Those were my initial thoughts, too. Pretty sly.

I don't think people have to worry about lack of manpower on the new site change. It's not like there's a single team of programmers working on the site - they were probably two teams working separately.

This also applies to those who claim that they would be conspiring together about release schedules - it'd be almost impossible. No sane manager would ask a team of programmers to come back after a weeks or months and fix bugs. (I can't remember what I was thinking when I wrote the code I wrote yesterday!)

Though, I guess you could watch out for a giveaway of something like that - a perfectly executed plot might suggest that it was competed way ahead of time and the programmers on it did nothing but polish things up. (Obviously, customization isn't quite ready - unless I'm right about the micropayment and Nexon is holding up their end - and the site redesign wasn't polished or even beta'd. Those are more probably rushed.)

Pageviews are affected a lot less by plots than one would expect - consider the current part of the plot. There were about three pages - the rest were Flash-based. Even the whole composite-making with Sophie would only count as a single page view on Alexa, since it's the same page throughout the visit. That wouldn't apply if they were doing their internal count, of course - but it would be very short-sighted to make something bad and then deceive their own company about it over such a short period. No Neopets = no job.

Yep, I'm a fan of this. TNT seem to really be getting their act together. You can definitely see where all their time's been going lately, new layout, new plot, new customizable pets. I'm really impressed.

I also think that the timing seems more than coincidence. Their last plot ran so smoothly that they seemed to have every bit planned out well in advance. Comics were released on time(no weeklong or monthlong waits), and they handled the database issues very quickly. I suspect the comics were all done, and the pages prepared, before the plot went on to the site, and I bet that's what they've done this time too.
But they wouldn't release a plot right after the redesign to boost pageviews. It would be to recover loyalty. I've heard a lot of people saying that the plots and similar site events are what makes Neopets better than other pet sites. It's something new, and time-limited, so you only get one chance at it. Plots revive flagging interest--people start drifting away from Neopets, hear about a new plot, and come racing back to their computers.
I don't think it's particularly devious of them, just intelligent thinking. Changes to the site drive people off the site, plots bring people back, so why not release a plot to negate the redesign?
