I second this, after seeing the wonderful old art, compared with the 'new' 'updates' I felt like laughing my head off, after all, TNT is going to be shocked and surprised when all of their long-time users suddenly leave after seeing their pets.

And the absolute WORST imo, i almost cried when i saw how it has been killed, and it wasn't even one of my dream pets.

They just don't compare! In the original designs the pets are light, free-spirited and flying, I only selected a few (believe me there were more), mainly to point out to those who hadn't noticed, that the redraws just don't compare. Take the Faerie Pteri, just LOOK at the first one, it looks like a precious bird caught mid-flight, bright colours, feathers moving in the wind, small and pretty, and everything that Faeries are symbolised by. Just look at the redraw, does it remind you of a Faerie? Is it flitting freely and cheerfully in the same way as the original? The design is the same, but the pose gives it no personality, no life, no expression. No amount of clothing could possibly save those poor pets from looking pathetic and boring!
Exhibit B: Grey Pets
Now let me just state, I never ever even wanted a Grey Pet.. too expensive, not particularly appealing to me, but I acknowledge that many people loved them and aspired to have them, and I just don't see how TNT can justify...

Hell just look at the list yourselves, every single Grey pet has been 'updated' into something which is by its very nature, not "grey" in the sense that TNT used the term. They have bloodshot eyes, grey fur, the occasional strangle of fur/feathers/etc and they have sad frowns, but thats IT. They aren't completely miserable and drooping and curled into little sad balls of 'i just can't bear to get up, the world is too depressing'.

The Maraquan Gelert has been my dream pet for a long time, and I was extremely reluctant to even look at the new version in fear of finding my wonderful pet terrible. I must admit I'm a bit torn, while its not "OMG HORROR" the pose is a little awkward and its just not as serene and graceful as the original.
Some of the Maraquan pets, including those above, just have strange poses, they look fatter, less streamlined, and just downright weird.
Anyways, I might continue the rest of my anger at bad redraws at a later date, but I hope this opened some more eyes on just how badly some of the pets were ruined. I'm not saying i completely hate the redraw though, some of the pets which were needing a redraw anyway actually look quite good.

I'm pretty sure this has been suggested, but why not have an option to keep the old images if you don't want to customise your pet??? My Faerie Buzz, my Halloween Uni, my Hissi! All are terrible!
I mean, I don't like the new layout, with the sidescroll and all (and I don't want to change my screen resolution, I like being able to read on my computer), but I could probably learn to live with it's cluttered look, but like everyone, I hate the redraws!

I think it's because they all need to be flash/vector artwork now (the images in lookups, etc, would be generated from flash files I think), and they can't be bothered re-drawing all the pets in flash in the old styles as well as the new (the "selected few" that are un-customisable have actually been re-drawn in flash as well, I think, but copied from the old art).

And yes, I was going through shieboo's page last night, and groaning in horror every few minutes, I think!! That most or all the faerie pets are now on the ground instead of floating is just wrong. They're meant to be light and airy, that's the whole point.
The faerie ixi in particular... it wasn't a dream pet for me, but I loved it the moment it came out.
And that the gray pets aren't sad is just ... very sad.

I have been trying to zap my uni into grey for quite awhile now but the new grey uni is... not what I expected. Does anyone know if I can still use the old artwork if they are painted/zapped now?

I'm with you on the ixis. The faerie ixi (old version) is the only one that didn't look evil/angry. Instead, it looked arch (2), princessy (the "angry" pout is priceless), and above all, SWEET. The redraw makes it just like the other ixies... bad attitude, pointy, and the top of the head wider than the bottom (discounting the cheek fur).
I had been saving up to make a gray yurble because I felt that the gray yurbles needed me to take care of them....
why would I ever want the new yurble?!
Also, what is UP with the staff hand syndrome?! Has anyone else noticed that those hands, since they are supposed to be around something but aren't, almost always have the middle finger sticking out?
In other notes, I like the faerie flotsam much better in its new pose (i thought the head wings looked stupid and they were probably an error in the first place). I don't mind the lenny either except that it no longer looks sweet, coy, and feminine. it looks manly. The techo and tuskaninny? for crying out loud, those were just about the only techo and tusk that had any personality... but not any more.
The biggest thing about the faerie pets is the loss of shading and tiny details. The faerie pets had extra shading and delicate details that made them seem more 3D; now they're flat and look basically just like the other pets. This, to me, is unforgivable - they could be just as pretty in the new pose, but aren't.
And as for gray pets... well... they might as well undroop that paintbrush because obviously they're no longer interested in having a depressed looking paintbrush, they just want gray color and that's it. slightly concerned is the best you could say of it.
On to the maraquan pets you posted... omg the aisha originally had been bugging the heck out of me, it looked SO stupid. it looks alive like something you might find swimming now! Ditto the gelert. But the others... again with the shading - or lack thereof.
Finally, that ice bruce... if they were going to keep it from being a popsicle, why not make it ice colored at least? what is icy about a melting red bruce? more like gravy or something than ice.

The Maraquan Gelert has also been my super dream pet for quite some time now. I have been saving up for it since I got my faerie peophin (which thank goodness I had the option of keeping the old artwork!) and now, I just don't know. It's not really a super drastic "change" compared to the other redraws. They basically just changed its posed. But then again, what I really liked about it is how it's sitting and looking all regal. Maybe just maybe if they changed the pose that's similar to this:

minus the expression. maybe it could work. (or maybe it's just me not liking the new one) but right now, the pose is making this creature looking awkward.

Uhm, yeah. I'm so changing my favourite pet into that brown pikey thingy.
Also, when I checked my spare accounts I saw that Robot Unis were hit quite badly by the redrawn. And recolour, apparently. It just annoys me that to allow customization they have to kill all the variety of poses they used to have.

At first I didn't think the redraws where that bad, I actually liked the new pose for my pirate chomby better, even though it had lost it's wooden leg.
But now I looked at some of the petpages with all the redraws I can understand that some people are so upset. It's not that the artwork is badly done, but it seems that alot of the special pets have lost their "character" and originality (like the grey and faerie pets) because all pets need to be in the same pose now.
Granted, some redraws are great. I really like all the robot pets. TNT has done a great job on those. And there are alot of pets that aren't any better or worse then they were before.
Now I have mixed feelings about this. I have always wanted to customise my pets and I really like being able to do that. I can make my pets more individual now. But I can understand why some pet owners are so upset about the redraws.
I think TNT could have anticipated that people would be really upset about the redraws. Users spend alot of time to collect enough np to be able their pet and paint their pet according to the character they gave their pets.
But on the other hand, TNT only tried to give us what they think we wanted and they did put alot of effort into this...
So now I'm not sure what to think about his.

What actually dissapoints me the most in the redraws is the fact that all pets look the same now. Their colors may be different but all their poses are the same. I just spend a while looking through the petpages with the new and old designs compared and I finally noticed it.
Al the "special" colors has a different pose then the "normal" colors. If you look at colors like Faerie, Royal, Maraquan and Darigan you can clearly see that those pets had diferet poses and in my opinion that made them more special. Their poses suited the color they had.
I aslo noticed that with some pets details were removed. If you look at the Roayl minchy boy, he has a beard in the old picture, it is gone in the new. There are several pets like that. Although I must say that some pets do look better in the new form (the robot pets especially) I am still not happy with the current way my pets look. Guess it'll take a little while longer to get used to.

Looking at what they have done to the Faerie Pets makes me greatful that I decided that Faerie was too expensive of a Paintbrush to aim for. ;.; Depressing. I was shocked when I first saw my Pets and I've now had time to contemplate all of what they've done... and I'm still as annoyed as ever. ¬.¬ I'm glad it isn't as bad as some of the Pet Re-Draws... but still...
That is utterly adorable. And worth the 500k+ I saved up over the years for. (I originally had an Adopted Quiggle. =P) I noticed that the Poogle on the Petpage is different from mine ('cause its a guy I believe)... but this is what I'm now looks like:
¬.¬ Where's the personality? Where is the joy? Where is the lack of Mumps/Inflamation Steroid Side Effects? I was on Steroids. I looked like a Potato. Now my Poogle looks like a Potato. And she looks rather fed up too. Who can blame her, I was fed up when I looked like a Potato.
I cried when I saw her... and it still hurts inside. -prods- Yes, they were the good, lovable kind of podgy... now they just look bloated. ¬.¬
And don't get me started on the Halloween Shoyru.
Where is the evil-ness? Where is the you'll-never-get-me attitude? ...Where is the evil-ness?! The original Halloween Shoryu was kind of cute... but had that thing about him that made you know that not all was what it seemed (well, to me at least... that's why he's painted that way) but now. He's just so adorable you couldn't take him seriously if he claimed to have kid-napped the Rulers of Neopia and was declaring a Ransom. -_- Poor King Altador... no-body would save him. Like I said, don't get me started. XP
I also have a Female Purple Grundo and a Female Starry Zafara that have both been ruined. -.- Not on such a scale compared with my other two pets but I still don't like it. The new Re-Draws go completely against their Personalities... which is my problem and means other people would think the Re-Draws on those two pets are awesome. -.- Aw well, I'll live with them... it's not like I have the right kind of Flash (I need an upgrade) Player to customize them anyway. Then I'd be annoyed as I'd have ability to try and make them look better but would be annoyed that I couldn't. ^^;;

I actually like the maraquan aisha redraw more than I did the old one. I still don't like it a whole lot, but it's better. I hate what they did to the grey pets, but I also have to say I don't hate what they did to the grey aisha. To be honest, it wasn't one of the greatest grey pets to begin with. I'd love if it was more droopy, but it could be worse.
But, oh those poor hissis and ixis. Hissis were in my top five favorite pets..but now, not so much. Wings do not = hands.
What I mourn most are the 9 poses. Sometimes I like pets mainly due to one pose and now...all the same.

At first, I was very confused here because I couldn't spot any obvious difference between the images. But after looking closer, they changed some of the shading so that it's being lit more from the front and took away a fine line or two (and added the eyelashes). Amazing what those few changes does to the impression you get! Hopefully the customization options will help get what you want back.
