I don't think clicking the comic panel is required to get the Ravenous Monster. I logged onto Neopets from work, where we don't have the Flash plugin so I couldn't even view the comic - I was going to wait until I got home to continue the plot, but then I got Boochi's random event, went to the BD to battle him and there was the monster instead.
So I think it's automatic.

Puzzle help, of course!
Aw man, I give UP. Here's a link to a screenshot of my puzzle. I whizzed through 1 and 2, but 3 is killing me.

Thanks in advance.

Me, too. It was annoyingly challenging.
A tip to those having trouble defeating the monster. I was able to get through a few rounds with 2 scarab rings. You might also want to buy a healer that you can take into the BD with you. That way if he zaps you, you can heal enough to defeat him. I am using a greater healing scroll. But, if you don't have a lot of hit points to begin with, a lesser healing scroll or slime potion (which is one use only) would suffice. And, if you are quick, you can buy the scarab rings and healing scroll, battle the guy a few times and then sell them quickly, possibly not losing any nps whatsoever.
And, a heads up. Some people here at PPT are going out of their way to help people solve their puzzles. Volunteering to spend their free time doing so. So, as my mom used to tell me, a please and a thank you go a long way.
Tested made this fabulous set for me!!! Isn't it great?

Garmfry has created a great battledome guide. You can find it here: http://petpages.neopets.com/~garmfry And the best way to get an increase in hitpoints is to train for endurance at the training academy.
By the way, not to gloat or anything, but I have beat him 111 times. And my pet only has 37 hitpoints. I still don't know quite how I am doing it. But have decided that I am going to continue until he soundly trounces me. It is sort of a challenge for me now--just to see how far I can go. And yet, still no battle faerie avatar.
