Maybe they didn't expect the child to get stolen-- but who would leave a child alone in a hotel room (or whatever) in the first place? Regardless of how close you are, what if there was an accident!?
There was child-minding in the hotel, they just didn't want to take it because they could check up easily.
Shame that didn't work out, really? The poor girl doesn't deserve to be killed, or whatever dreadful thing that may have happened to her-- but you should be wary of those kind of things if you leave a child alone in a unknown place.
