That's insane. I really don't understand why anyone would abuse someone because of something that's not their fault, like race and genetics. And even if they are complete 'prannocks' (it's British slang that means fool, moron, idiot, etc.), I don't think it's right that they're being assaulted to the point that their children are suicidal.

Supposedly.

I did say 'if'. Either way, the situation is just absurd.

I honestly don't think that their children are suicidal. There was an interview on BBC Breakfast today and the family said "No, this is all about the colour of our hair. Nothing to do with anything else!"
Right afterwards there was a clip of some interviews with neighbours talking about how the family's kids terrorise the neighbours by throwing eggs at their windows, shouting stuff, etc.

Basically this family is being forced out of their home by a community who has had enough of being terrorised by them, and the family are trying to grab attention by blaming it on their hair colour. I mean seriously, the dad's hair wasn't red and the mum's hair was dyed blonde with her black roots showing! Only the kids had ginger hair, and if they're doing what the neighbours have said they should leave the estate!

I love it when people try to blame things on being a minority group, rather than taking responsibility for their actions. "Our kids are redheads, that's why nobody likes us!" I'm sure that SO many people care about hair color that much. Heck, I've had my hair purple, orange, black, brown, and pink, as well as seven shades of red that varied from perfectly natural to blatantly unnatural, and no one's ever threatened to run me out of town. No one's ever even insulted me for my hair color.

Even then, moving out won't solve the problem because their kids will do it to the next people they live near. Instead, the parents should be asked/forced to do something about their behavior.

I'm almost a redhead (the proper term is strawberry blond) and people don't really make fun of me. We do sort of make fun of the bright red people, but we don't treat them badly.

Ah, so the truth finally comes out! You know, that really gets my goat. Members of my family were actually threatened by policemen who were with the KKK into not teaching any of their kids to speak Spanish. And these people are using their hair as a cover for their real behavior?

Sheesh.

*shakes head*

I'm "ginger" (steadly going blonde), and the amount of crap I have to take from it. There are about 1,500 students in my school, there are only three redheads, of course we are going to stand out and have comments thrown around about it, but sometimes the insults do get a bit much.

Though now, I don't get as much as I had enough one day and punched a boy on the nose because he called me ginger, now its just my friends who say it as a joke, but thats different, they know where the line is.
But I'm llucky like that, the ohter two get alot of hassel as well, one of them, a year seven (first year) is one of them, and although no-one says anything to him because they know I'm his auntie and I wouldn't hesitate to deck them all one if they said anything, but the looks we get sometimes from random passers by as we walk down the street is disgraceful.

The way this family has been treated is disgusting, yes, its the press and may not be completely truthful, but I don't understand how people can be so prejudiced for such little reaons!

:x

Even if you don't treat someone badly, being made fun of still hurts. :/

Xenophobia.
We hate what is differant, and red / Ginger hair is differant.

It's true. Next time, if you're made fun of, tell them off. Teach people how you should be treated.

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.
