Is all hope lost for them? They used to be the best way to meet members, but now the guild boards never advertise any good ones. And it takes a really long time to use the neo guild browser.

I've been in search for a nice guild for a while - but I wonder, is it useless?

I took a break from neo and came back april but I have played since 2001, so the newbie board isn't going to help lol.

Ehh...I use to run a guild with fun stuff for people to socialize and such, but it has died down. The peak was around 150-160 members, but now it's only 60-something, I believe. I guess my council and I got tired of running it and most people just left Neopets (once they left elementary school?)

I suggest you join a guild that focuses on one of your interests on Neopets (stocks, games, battledome, etc) instead of joining a "general" guild (unless you really want to socialize, but those are difficult to find a fairly active one).

Hmm.. yeah i've seen a few theme guilds but it's hard to find them. I was thinking either neo reseller, graphics, books, art, or neo gallery guilds.
But I don't know, o_O like I said - maybe guilds have gone down the toilet these days.

But thank you for the suggestion/idea :)

I think guilds are pointless. I haven't been in one in a few years. They aren't fun, and they're all pretty much the same in my opinion. Everyone does the same exact things.

I'm in one mainly to keep from getting invites, lol. It's a nice guild though. Every now and then I'll read through the recent messages and maybe post something. There's no pressure to be super social and I love that.

When I wanna meet other neopetters, I come here 8)

I don't think you can find a good guild unless you know what you want and thus have a goal, and you sound rather aimless. Most (dare I say 99%?) of guilds are not for anything other than socializing. If that's all you want, I think it's best to find friends and then join their guild or start a new one with them or just hang out on a neoboard together.

Now if you have a specific interest, it's not hard to find guilds and check them each out as there will be very few to sort through. Guilds centered around specific Neopian activities tend to be rather well run. Stock Market, Book Awards, Art, Collecting, etc., all have really great communities where people work to help eachother with information and support. You don't have to be intensely dedicated to any of these things to join and have fun. Maybe you like to draw once every few months and have only entered the art gallery once... you'd still likely find that an art guild would have people that were more like you and enjoy the community.

I am in a guild, but just so I don't get invites and my lookup looks nicer when I am in a guild. I always come here if I need anything though, so I really don't use guilds.

I was in a guild for a while, but then when the head of the guild didn't recognize me when I was bidding on a item for guild members only; nor would he answer my neomail reminding him I was a member, i quit.

I'm still looking for a smaller active guild but its no longer on my priority list.

Ooh, did I hear the word "guilds"? 0:)

Without launching into a long-winded spiel that I would like to, I guess I'll just fill you in on a few things.

First of all, the GC is not just like the AC where you can pop in a few times here and there over a few months, and then know who the "people" are (the popular/prominent ones) and what AC'ing is all about. The GC is a pretty hostile place.. people of all genres and mindsets run rampant. You could say it's like the AC in its very basic stages. It has a purpose, to advertise guilds, and there are regulars, but there is no organization or rules. There are not even "guidelines" (heh). If you are looking for a "good" guild, the GC will generally NOT help you.

That being said, we GC'ers or GO'ers or GM'ers (guild chatters, guild owners, and guild makers respectfully) have nowhere else to go to communicate, so the GC is all we have. Generally, you don't need to go to the GC if you are in the guild. Once you're in a "popular" NR guild and you get to know the people, you just follow the "populars" from guild to guild. If you really want to keep track of ALL the "It" (nr) guilds, like I do, you basically need to watch the boards everyday, stalk lookups, keep track of stats, and.. well, maybe that's just what I do.

Anyhow, my whole point that I would like to make is that guilds have not gone down the drain. It's true that guilds are not what they used to be a year ago, and 2 years ago; At any given point, there would be 3-5 "It" guilds being created every week to 2 weeks, and now there is barely one or 2 every month. But then everyone who is someone gravitates to one "buzz" guild instead of 3 and.. there is some unity in the GC "world".

The only active guild (that I know of) that's been running awhile is "Shurup". It's a quaint NR guild that isn't for everyone, but it's there if you want an active community who are just there to socialize and enjoy what a guild is meant to be. I myself used to own guilds religiously, but I've since... fallen off the bandwagon.

It just makes me sad when people say guilds have "gone down the drain" because they really haven't.. you just have to look a little harder. I've been a religious GC'er/GO'er/GM'er for 2 and a half years now, so I've seen the ups and downs of this part of the Neopets site. It's always been fun. If you have any more questions.. feel free to PM me. :)
I apologize if I went a little overboard.. I tend to get a little perked up when guilds are mentioned. :P

There's an option to block guild invites, so no use to join one just for that. ;)

lol I totally forgot. I still like being in a guild, it adds an extra line to my lookup, so it looks bigger ;)

There are people of all ages and interests on the guild boards, as lothwe mentioned. I see tons of guild advertisements that seem completely uninteresting. However, everytime I've been in a guild I liked, it's been through the guild board. It just takes patience to root through the board and find something that speaks to you.
