Ugh, I didn't like the ending. Just.. once you've read it, you'd probably agree with how OTT it was.
Plus, I don't like those particular couples. Cue shipping wars.
Overall, I don't know what my opinion of the book was. Liked most of it, didn't like other parts.
And for those who have read it..
Who does JKR class as "main character"? I got 2/3rds of the way through it, realised how many people she'd offed, and couldn't work out which were the 2 characters she said she was killing off.
And the Tonks/Remus death? Totally unnecessary, especially without an explanation considering the amount of screen time that they had.
I wish we could have had more indepth things about the duels that had been taking place. I'm still quite chuffed about Tonks/Lupin being offed. I too wish I know what could have happened more in the future. Like a proper epilogue or something. Or a letter from someone to someone else. I'm also a bit peeved she offed Hedwig. Do we have a proper body count here?
Hedwig. Madeye The Creevey Kid Fred Tonks Lupin Snape Voldey
Hmm. I did however enjoy Mrs. Weasley smacking up Bellatrix.
When JK said there was going to be a significant death, she wasn't kidding. O_O I mean, I haven't read the books (I'll probably try to find a couple at the library and get to work), but I know who's big characters...and holy carp, I think they killed almost all of them.
WHY THE HELL WAS THE OWL KILLED?! WHAT DID HE DO?!

I don't know why. But Ron, Hermoine or Harry didn't die, as highly anticipated.
As my father pointed out, these are childrens books. It doesn't make sense in teh end to off the beloved main character of millions of fans. Had that happened, i'm sure Rowling would have been offed herself. Someone was walking through the line at the Chapters I was at going "I can't believe she died" and all I could think of doing was pouncing on them and smashing my fist into their face. Thankfully my daddy (he's so nice), was with me so I couldn't do it and instead wiggled a finger in my ear and went "la la la". I don't know who they meant. But suffice to say that I spent the whole book in agony going "OH MY GOD if HERMOINE or GINNY DIES..." but they didn't.
I'm curious if she writes an encyclopedia (JK Rowling) that is, after this. She said thats what hse wanted to do, to list out the characters. But for me it'd need to be super intensive. It needs to have the expansive story lines behind everyone. I want her to do it, but I want it to be mind blowingly amazing, not some piddly "this is a character, they did this in the books, moving on, this is another character, they were mentioned in the book".

I think he was dead or too close to it by the time they finished Disapparating.

I've been thinking about that myself. The only person I could imagine got the reprieve was Hagrid, but that's assuming I read the last part right and he's still alive at the end. As for the deaths, I keep thinking back to Fred's death. That was such a random, sudden death that I wonder how long she'd been imagining that one. Maybe Scrimgeour is the other? He was a key player, but I'm really not sure.
crappiest cop out storyline ever. I *knew* she'd make Harry a horcrux 'cause it's so lame!
Yeah, my friend called that one, along with a few other things (like saying "Voldemort" actually alerting him/Death Eaters). The prediction made it, well, predictable I guess.
Also...
I'm just happy (selfishly happy) that Snape turned out to be "good" in the end...not without faults, but not pure evil. I also really appreciated the huge backstory that came from Harry visiting his thoughts in the Pensieve. I'd love to have a large supplementary volume of backstories someday, so that more can be known about characters.
after my very negative post last night, i then went to bed, and things kept popping into my head that i loved about the book. i'm still a little undecided on my opinions of it though. i'd like to spend today reading it again, but i've promised it to someone else at college, so i'll read it again after she's read it.
i think the leak that 2 main characters die was true. mad-eye, fred, lupin, tonks, hedwig, voldemort, and harry died, (he just didnt stay dead). but then the leak that the last word was "scar" was also untrue.
there was something else i was going to say, but i dont remember what it was now....
The leak that the last word was scar, was true. It's been true since she wrote book one. She said that was the last word in the book. But she changed it when she started writing this book.
Never in my PPT life have I ever been so happy that there are spoiler tags. I have to wait a loooooong time to get my hands on the last book, though I just had to come here to get a feeling for what everyone else has thought of it so far. I wonder how long it will take for the book to be put online though (not that that is what I'm doing!)
I hope that my predictions come true *crosses fingers*.
