Re: SCAM ALERT

there should really be a thread composted of jus scam letters and emails to help warn people. That way if they see something fishy, they can look it up real quick. it might help save countless accounts from being stolen.

At the risk of sounding cynical, a lot of the people who fall for these things aren't the people who'd check a thread like that before responding.

Hmm, that's cleverer than most. The rule of thumb I live by is that unless it's the authentic log in page ON the website, I refuse to enter my password. It saves a lot of heartache. Thanks for the warning!

oh, Sanie, I completely agree, but it would still be nice to have a list of scams found. Just for reference (or lolz). Its always interesting to see how many are out there and how many people would actually fall for (because some are rather dumb and obvious).

A list of scams is also pointless in the sense that any email you receive asking for your password or giving you a link to login is a scam. There is no alternative.

(for as long as I've been on neopets, they have never ever emailed me and asked me to log in)

More importantly, if there was a page of emails to watch out for, it might give new people ideas for what to put into spam emails

Dear Sir or Madam,

I shake you warmly by the hand. For some reason we've decided not to disclose, we need to know your password to your Neopets account. Make sure you have lots of Neopoints. And... if you've got any passwords for other sites, like Gaia or Subeta or something, we'd like them too. For... security purposes.

Sincerely,

The Neopets Staff

Thanks for the info - I've never heard of a scam like this before.

Never heard of it either. Just another thing to look out for in the world of Neopia.

Not just in Neopia - never respond to emails asking for any password of yours unless you are absolutely sure of its origins. And, your probably already know this, but if you get directed to login pages, always check the url in your address bar. I nearly signed in on a fake page a few weeks back when someone kept posting links to his fake login page. Had a mild heart attack when I realized how close I came to losing my account eeep ><
