Recently, my iPod has run out of space to store songs (700 songs were allowed). I was wondering, is there a way to increase its size limit or am I stuck with buying another iPod Nano?

Mmm...I have a nano also. 2 GB, I'm almost reaching my limit. What I do is not-sync the songs I don't listen to anymore (especially since my nano is usually listened to during exercising periods). Or I just constantly change what songs I put on my iPod.

But if there is a better way, I would like to hear it too

Well, I asked someone in HMV and they stated that you have to buy a new iPod.

Which imo sucks, as they should provide some upgrade software.

it's not the software you ahve a problem with though, it's the hardware. in order to upgrade it you'd have to change whatever the storage device is inside the ipod, and it's probably just cheaper to get a new one.

I have a nano and i don't put all my music on it, i put a selection, which i always thought was the point of a nano.

The only thing i could think of is if you got a program that would re-encode the files into a lower quality then the files would be smaller and you'd fit more on there. However, obviously you'd then have poorer quality music.

That is the point; and I do share the ipod with my brother and we have different tastes in music.

Not meaning to start a flame war with any apple fanboys, but what apple product is easy to upgrade? Its just not a feature apple prioritises. Not that a zune is upgradable, but still.

Honestly, I don't know enough about any electronic device to know what Apple does or does not do. Hence my question.

No.

An iPod Nano is 8.9 x 4.1 x 0.7cms in size. The average CPU Tower is about 45 x 17 x 45cms. Now think about how difficult it is to remove the harddrive from your computer? Have you even tried? If you have, you will know it isn't the easiest thing in the thing (though not extremely hard, either).

Imagine removing the harddrive from something 100 times smaller than your CPU, 100 times more delicate.. etc.

Yeah...

As Rachel points out, the quality has a lot to do with it. I'm not sure if the nano does, but I know the shuffle had an option to encode everything in a much lower quality, just for the iPod, in order to maximize space. However, I have a 5G iPod, so you'd have to check that out. Other than that, all I can suggest is that you guys be more selective with what you want.
