Re: Massive Hacking...?
Eep. Do we know which IM? Or does it matter?
I hate these sorts of things. I have a PIN set on everything where possible, but I could still lose stuff in trades and my petpets. And it's annoying. A game is supposed to be relaxing, I haven't found neopets relaxing for years! If it isn't a hacker, it's a glitch! Bleh.

Brian (munsterpoo) says he didn't even know about his acct being hacked until just a few minutes ago
My account was already suspended when I came on last night, and all my galleries already frozen, so I just stayed away for a day

Even if you have a PIN, if someone gets into your account it doesn't do anything. They can change the account's email address and then request the PIN to be sent to it. It's such a useless feature. I wish TNT had an option checkbox that says "This is my permanent email address. I will never ever never ever ever change it." or something. And then when you check it and go through the "are you sure" "SUPER sure?" your account would never be able to have its email changed. That would stop SO many scammers in their tracks. Breaking into neopets is one thing, but to break into Yahoo or Google would be much more difficult and much more risky in terms of legal matters.
Sorry, a little off topic but it's a pet peeve of mine.
Re: Massive Hacking...?
I thought you needed to enter a password before changing emails?
Re: Massive Hacking...?
The password there is the same as the login password, so if they hack your login data, they can also change the password. However there is still the option to add a PIN to the 'change email option'. So they can't change your email address and access/change the PIN in that way, unless they already know your PIN (which would make changing emails obviously unnecessary)
Also, to prevent these kinds of 'IM hacking', it's best to use a different email address than the one you use for your IM.

Re: Massive Hacking...?
It'll be about a year and a half ago now (at the very least... -prods-), but a Anime-Themed Forum that I still frequently visit had something similiar happen to some of the members. Apparently, this guy would add you on MSN Messenger, start a Conversation with you and then some how hack into your Hotmail account that way. o.o;; Apparently. That never happened to me and I un-installed MSN Messenger straight after I heard about that... you can never be too careful after all.
That and it wasn't working right on my Windows 98 anyway. Meh. I haven't touched an Instant Messager since hearing that. -nods paranoidly- Maybe it's something like that? Meh. Or maybe that was a rumour/joke; sometimes it's hard to tell with the Site in question.
Gah.
If it's true, I feel sorry for those people that after years of hard work got their accounts hacked into. -prods-
This is why I don't visit the Neoboards... it's good to be anonymous. -crawls under rock hiding from hijackers and whatnot-

Wow, there is. Is that new? Color me impressed.
Re: Massive Hacking...?
All the pages are messed up and broken now. It also said I already collected my monthly stuff even though I hadn't. We'll see how well Neopets goes on denying this one too.

I thought there was that option. Yeppers, there's a PIN required to change the email address.
Just wish they would PIN protect attached petpets and trades already. Two places that definitely need it.

Ugh! Stupid Melbourne weather!
I missed out on all the trouble because of it. Weeks on end nothing interesting happens except plots. Then when I am down for 4 days because of the weather something happens.
