As petty as some Neopians are, this is probably true.

Yeah, a friend in my guild suggested that idea. Hoping for a response from a mod I emailed earlier :)

Well, this really surprises me. Especially all the people saying "I hate seeing NFT in trades...."

I would NEVER use the TP for showing off stuff or keeping things safe from RE, that is just ridiculous besides being against the rules. But I've often put "not for trade" "reserved" or something to that effect in trades when trading with friends, lending things, or transferring a bunch of items to my side account. It never occurred to me that that could be taken as being wrong.

I always assumed that "NFT" meant "this is not for trade because I'm trading with a friend/transferring to a side/something like that" not "I'm not trading this, I just want to spam the trading post"

But thanks to this I know better now. I'll write something else or just leave it blank and deal with the annoyance of offers I don't want.

That's what I always though it meant. Whenever I put "reserved" people always ask for me to lend them the av, which bugs me so much. I will just not use the NFT-word now.

NFT - Not For Trade, by its very name it means that you do not intend to trade the item.

Even if your intent was to have it reserved, that is not what was seen. The person was probably upset to see another item that they couldn't bid on, so reported.

I am also a person that is irrated by NFT lots.

I have had no problems with putting reserved (and a name - usually a nickname) on an item and not getting any bids, maybe I am just lucky. o_O

At least you had a warning (and know not to do it again) and your account wasn't suspended. Some people do not get a warning, but are immediately frozen.

Yeah, I am disputing it because if I do it again on accident (or do anything else for that matter) I will be probably be suspended, which would put my account in jeopardy (and I have spent hundreds of dollars on this site, and would hate to see it all disappear)

The thing is, it does specifically state that the tp is for trading only. I know you were transfering it and have problems/annoyances when you state something is reserved, but whoever reported you probably didn't know that... :(

Apparently putting Not for Trade on a trade is against the rules :x People have done this for years, but it is now apparently breaking the rules

It's been against the rules for a very, very long time (at least the past 3 years, probably longer). It's just rare that one will actually get a warning for it.

Ah. What I'd do in this case would be to put up the trade and make it seem like a normal one, and then when your friend offers, accept theirs. That way you don't need to write anything.

I agree. I'd read this rule some time ago. I was surprised to see the NFT's on the TP but figured maybe the rule had been dismissed or relaxed.

Perhaps there could be a time limit on NFT items- this way sending to a side account or transferring to another person could be done, but people who have just put their item on the trading post to display it would need to get the NFT off of their description within that time limit.

Something that may be a concern is people who are just displaying but who list a price with no intention of honoring it. I could put a butterfish on the TP for 1000 np just to show it off and refuse any offers. As someone wanting to buy an item, I would find it annoying to place a legit and generous bid and have it turned down and still see the item listed.

"Party boards or outside chat rooms of *any* kind, including advertising for them on other websites, instant messengers, guild parties, party role playing or anywhere else. Using spaces or symbols to try to hide that word is not fooling anyone."

Not sure what you want explained, this rule is pretty clear. You are not allowed to make boards for pretending you're at a party, which idiotic kids like to do on the internet, i.e. "I'M DRUNK LOL" "LETZ ALL PLAY STRIP POKER!", etc.

I'm torn.

On one hand, it's never right to start enforcing rules without properly informing everyone they might apply to in advance, and I generally consider more rules to be a bad thing.

On the other, it was getting pretty stupid how everyone and their lupe were putting their 5-10 rarest possessions up in 'Display Trades' to show everyone how cool they were. We have galleries for that. Certainly, people look at those far less often, but that is because people are often (rightfully) disinterested in otherwise useless displays of wealth. Views gained by putting your items were they'll be found by people that are looking for a service you don't intend to offer are hardly something you can complain about losing.

It depends where they go from here. As long as it's ok when you put "Reserved for X' or 'Private Trade' in and make an effort informing people on their sudden change of policy, it won't be one of their worst rules.

Yeah, people that have fun in ways you disapprove of are such idiots!

Anyway, there's plenty to explain. Not all parties are loaded with sex or alcohol related references; a party is technically just a recreational meeting between a group of individuals; a term you could apply to a great many of the things we're allowed to do on the site. A timed group effort to refresh at the meridel rubbish dump to make it 'stock' better items while chatting in a board on it could easily be called a party, for example, and what about threads concerning a pet's birthday? In cases like these, it is merely the word 'party', and not any of its practical implications, that are forbidden; and that rightfully raises questions about those activities. All in all, it's a rather stupid rule; they banned the type of thread because it 'often led to rule breaking', when they already had rules against the things they actually wanted to forbid. Outlawing stuff simply by association is draconian at the best of times, and unmanageably arbitrary at most.

I don't think anyone here is debating that just showing off your stuff should absolutely not be done in trades, the point was that Siouxper (and me as well) misunderstood the meaning of "not for trade" We assumed it meant "reserved for someone who I've made previous arrangements to trade with, so if you're not that person don't offer"

Now we know better and will be more specific with our trades! :)

Hmm I think I agree with Raza. At least TNT should have made an announcement about it before starting to enforce the rules grrr.

I must admit, sadly, to being a person who sometimes reports people with "NFT" on their trades. But ONLY if I've been looking for an item and seen the NFT one up for over a week. I mean, if it were a transfer in the new items I don't give it a second thought. But when I see a rare item (in this case it was a Hissi mask I'd been monitoring prices on (but never got /cry)) on the TP for three weeks with "NFT - don't even bother! Waiting for it to be fixed!" in the subject... that just irked me so very, very much.

I hardly ever use the TP anymore, simply because it seems most people don't want to use it for trading.

Oh, also, if it's simply "NFT" I'll leave it, because that's fairly ambiguous - it could be used for a friends transfer. It's when people go "Look what I have and you don't" or "Never getting rid of this!" That I get really, really annoyed. I think those people deserve a warning for being annoying, spamming and breaking the trading post T&C.

Yes, I'm vindictive. And cynical. Seeing where Neopets has gone in seven years does that to some people.

Edit: And I also never expect TNT to put anything up in the news when they're about to change something. It would be nice, yes, but so would a lack of all ads (remember when Neopets would "never have ad banners", guys?)
