I have ads blocked, but I seem to be getting prompted to install a file on almost every page.

Is anyone else getting this?

I am using Firefox with ABP and I am not getting any download messages (although I don't even see ads, so it may be something in the ads that is causing it)

I'd run a spyware check on your computer. Ad-aware is a good (free!) one if you don't already have a spyware checker.

I run Avast which is much better than Spybot and Ad-Aware.
It found nothing and the message has stopped now.

It was only happening in Neo.

I've been very sick so should have posted this sooner but :: alas, yet again Neopets has advertisements with VIRUSes. (The ads themselves seemed to be blocked by my HOSTS file but some file download did come through despite some pretty decent security measures here.)

I am feeling particularly burned because it happened when I went to play a new favorite game, Spacerocked, opened up the normal page to play the game and then lo and behold that ADVERTISEMENT area I suspected would be dangerous inevitably caused a problem. :x

It took me more than 3 hours and more than half a dozen anti-malware tools (notably: Security Task Manager, SpyEraser, Spyware Begone, SpywareBlaster, and SUPERAntiSpyware) to remove all the files that kept on infecting my computer (disconnecting from the Internet made that easier). Plus I took your advice of using Avast! (which has a-vastly improved since I last used it) ;) and feel *somewhat* safer browsing the site now.

I also added some of the URLs that made their names so bold as to be known to my HOSTS file.

127.0.0.1 enhance.com
127.0.0.1 popads123.com
127.0.0.1 ezcoolpages.com

This is the second time (seems like since a year or so now?) this has happened to me on Neopets. I noticed that in all the muck of "virii" there was also the name Yazzle. :o I wish TNT/Viacom/MTV would be more careful. This is a site for children and age up and if a child is using a parent's computer to play, it could be disastrous in the case the family can't successfully remove the virus and lose valuable data. I might expect this from MySpace but not from Neopets!

Same here! I have those and have had no problems. The only ads I see are the ones Neopets made themselves and the occasional Nickelodeon one, and I doubt either of those are the culprit. I suggest using Firefix with NoScript or another browser with a similar addon until this is fixed (and really, you should use it all the time).

It's not the ads (I don't see hardly any of those since most are blocked by my HOSTS file). It's the viruses hosted on certain ad servers (even worse, Yazzle seems to be one of them). They just shouldn't be there at all. Simply unacceptable.

I use NoFirefox all the time. :P (For a plethora of reasons I absolutely DETEST the browser. I use Avant Browser and have the option to Disable Scripts.)

The problem is that the new way games are "popped up" (or not, at some resolutions) with the javascript. Therefore, if I were browsing the site without scripts (which is apparently frowned upon by TNT and borderline against the rules) but then had to have scripts ON to actually play a Flash game, the virus would still be able to get through since it would be enabled via the "Flash pop-up game page" itself. So, the NoScripts Firefox extention would conceivably do nothing to protect against this since javascript must be allowed to play Flash games. ~:>
