My keyboard randomly stops working!

My keyboard randomly stops working!
Hey y'all!
My keyboard lately has stopped working at random times. Sometimes when I start the computer, it doesn't work. Or sometimes halfway through my time on the computer, it stops working.
The only way I can fix it is if my computer restarts but if you're doing an essay (which I am) and countless other projects, it's a little bit annoying.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you spil anything into the keyboard? Is the wire frayed at a certain point? Is it hooked in all the way? The only thing I could suggest is to get a new keyboard.

Nothing was spilled. The wire is fine. And it's hooked in all the way.

Ok, try hooking up something else to your keyboard port, probably a different keyboard. If that works, then it's not the computer. If all else fails, I'd just say to dump the keyboard and get a new one.

Re: My keyboard randomly stops working!
With the computer off, unplug the keyboard, blow or wipe out the connections, and replug. Do this for both sides of the wires.
Clean out the keyboard, although this wouldn't seem to be the problem. But it can't hurt. Unplug the keyboard, turn it over and shake out any debris. Use an air blower to blow out the dust in between all of the keys. Shake upside down again.
If there is software associated with the keyboard, re-install.
This is all I can think of other than the damaged wire idea above.

For a stopgap solution, try unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in? That worked when our computer had problems recognizing the keyboard, but that was also a decade ago.

Re: My keyboard randomly stops working!
Have you tried going to Control Panel - Keyboard - Hardware to see if it is working properly?

Re: My keyboard randomly stops working!
Arka, I tried all your suggestions (except for re-installing the keyboard software, I can't find it!) and it didn't work.
Tsu, I don't have malware.
Moon, tried it, didn't work.
Siouxper, it says it works perfectly fine.
---
After countless hours freaking out about this problem, my dad bought a USB keyboard (as opposed to the circle one we had) and it works fine now.
Stupid technology, it confuses me! I can't even talk to a technical support person without asking every two minutes what various things on the computer are which is quite funny as in high school, I wanted to be a computer programmer.

You could've tried updating its software. Especially if you have Vista...that's notorious for driver issues but there might've been something out there that would've fixed it.

Yes, I'm still alive...still alive...
