Re: What instrument do you play in band?
I wasn't in band, but I had to learn how to play....clarinet, oboe, flute, sax, french horn, trombone, and percussion for music education. Granted, I had to only be able to do basic scales and some short elementary tunes...but I can make a semblance of a sound on each of them. Or, at least, I could a couple years ago. (This is why we're glad I'm not a band director.
)
But all that being said, my favorites were clarinet and french horn. I actually have a "student" clarinet that my in-laws gave me instead of sending to a garage sale...

It's super simple, at least imo. The higher notes and more difficult things are harder, of course, but it's really easy to just pick up and play. Just don't blow too hard and you're set.

I played alto sax that one year I was in band. Fun times, fun times.

Technically, I play all of the instruments listed being a music teacher and all. When I was actually in school though, I played flute, piccolo, percussion, clarinet, and piano in the band. I also took oboe and bassoon lessons in high school for fun

I played clarinet for four years.Then I started high school, where the band was notoriously cultish, so I elected not to continue. Pity, I enjoyed clarinet.

I wish we could. Cause that would be totally awesome. Hey, there should be something where everyone sends in recordings of them playing stuffs and you smoosh them together to make something that sounds somewhat like a whole orchestra.

You'd hafta get some of us string players involved if you wanted a whole orchestra...which would mean I'd hafta actually pick up my violin after having barely touched it since the last time I was in orchestra, which was 4 years ago.Helena wrote:I wish we could. Re: What instrument do you play in band?
I used to play clarinet.
Of course, there was the time I stuffed my wrist and couldn't play clarinet, so I ended up playing mallet percussion for a month, including in a performance.
I think I smurf off one of the guys, because I picked up the part in 2 rehearsals, and he was of the opinion he was amazing at music because 'OMG U GUYZ PERCUSSION IS HAAARD AND IM AWESUM COZ I CAN PLAY SO WELL'.
I also randomly played concert piano for another piece we did in band (and oh god did I want to burn that music, it was TERRIBLE).
I did play violin for 6 years, but had to stop because rehearsals for band and orchestra were at the same time and I couldn't do both at once.
