I want to get Neopets Premium, but when I tried to sign up with PayPal, it still asked for a credit card (which I don't have).

Is there a way to get around it?? Or do I really need that credit card?

I have premium but paid via credit card. I don't use Paypal, but this is from the paypal site:

"PayPal is the safer, easier way to pay and get paid online. The service allows anyone to pay in any way they prefer, including through credit cards, bank accounts, buyer credit or account balances, without sharing financial information."

I guess if you don't have a credit card you would have to give paypal all your banking information? Its a personal choice, but yikes, that sits uneasy with me.

Good luck, hopefully you find a way to work it out.

Could you get one of those prepaid credit cards? or debit cards that work as credit cards?

I have a PayPal account connected to a checking account. PayPal credited two very small amounts of money to the account number, and then I had to verify the amounts to prove I had access to the accounts.
You can have a PayPal account not connected to any card or account, but it's pretty useless.

Well I have a PayPal account, but on PayPal, it says that it has to be a debit card that has a credit card logo on it (which I don't know why a debit card would have a Visa/MC symbol on it). I've already transfered money from my bank account to my PayPal account.

I might have to look into these "pre-paid" credit cards. You can get them through banks, correct??

As I understand it, debit cards have brands, but everything other than Visa and Mastercard brand is regional.

debit card refers to a type of card. They work by only letting you take out what money you have in your bank account. in some countries you can use your debit card to make purchases on the phone and over the internet. in other countries, you can only use your debit card to take money out of cash machines or to pay for goods in shops.

credit cards (visa and mastercard) let you take out money on credit.

debit cards with a credit card logo are a special kind of debit card that works by only letting you take out what money you have in your account, but also acting as a credit card in the way that you can use it for telephone and internet purchases. this is really beneficial in certain countries where a normal debit card doesn't have these features :)

That is good to know. I honestly never knew that at all. I'm going to have to look into that and see if my bank has that or not.

no problem :) it might be worth checking out other banks in your country too - I know not all banks do them. I have a normal bank account for every day things and a debit credit card with a different bank for those times when I need a credit card.

I'll definitly be doing that. If my bank doesn't have it, I'll just go up to my son's bank (2 blocks away) and see if they do it.

My next task...trying to get there before I start work, haha.

we *~my husband and I...~* got a bank account @ 1 bank that;s jus checking nothing else...
then @ another bank we got another account that we use the debit card from...that debit card has a Visa symbol on it...meaning it can be used as a credit card for online purchases...
the reason we did it this way is cuz the main *~1st account...~* is there for everyday things...the 2nd account is for those things like NP Premium *~which as soon as the card arrives...I;m getting!!!~* and Daniel's FFXI subscription...we both felt much safer doing it this way as then there's no chance of there being no $ in the main account for things we need...the 2nd account is for the wants...we jus opened the 2nd account a couple days ago...which is why we don;t have the card as of yet...

That's a good idea: to open a second account that will only contain monies for fun stuff. Good plan.

Actually, this isn't completely accurate. Debit Cards (or "Check/Cash Cards") bearing a Discover, Mastercard or Visa logo can be rung up as a credit card. Banks will often tell you that if you use your debit card to make a purchase but don't use your pin number (essentially telling the cashier that you're using a credit card when he/she asks debit or credit) they'll reimburse 1% (or so) of your purchase price. Many major retailers (Amazon.com for instance) try to encourage customers to use the card for "debit" only...(in Amazon's case it's that 500 dollar contest they offer at check out.)

Real mumbo jumbo--but what happens is that the card companies charge the banks for debit purchases and merchants for credit purchases. (It's a small fee--2.9%ish percent--but a banker notices three percent.)

As for PayPal--you ought to be able to create a premium billing agreement without using a credit card. If you cannot you will need to contact TNT. H/E PayPal lets you generate "virtual debit cards" for use on one website/with one vendor. (It's part of the paypal toolbar.) That's what I would use to pay neopets.

As for adding money to your account, (as a verified seller) I can tell you that prepaid cards are a hastle. 3/4ths of the time they are just rejected.

I would also not give paypal access to your main banking account. Use a checking account you can zero out and block ACH access too. When paypal skims something off the top, you'll know it.

guess they act quite differently in different countries. definitely a good idea to speak to your bank to find out how they behave in your country :)
