I honestly cant stand it when people refer to american football as 'football'. They dont kick the damn ball around with their feet so why call it that?!
I don't know why Americans would call football "American football" when we call association football "soccer" instead of "football." Seeing as association football is not nearly as popular as American football here, and "soccer" is both more precise and more concise than "football"--which is merely a name for a category of sports "which involve (to varying degrees) kicking a ball with the foot in an attempt to score a goal." Our football has no short, precise name, and we shouldn't have to say six syllables when two will do just as well.
