Welcome to the world of braces Ammer. Sadly, the pain will only get worse from this point onwards. My tip is, painkillers. Lots and lots of painkillers. Soft foods only for the first two days.

Well, that's just wonderful.

Yeah, unfortunately that's normal, because the braces are already placing enormous pressure on your teeth to move them, and applying more pressure through biting, chewing, etc. only adds to that. That usually dulls after a week or so, though, and reappears when you get your braces tightened. Eventually the pressure pain only lasts a few days after tightening.

EDIT: And pain does not necessarily get worse from this point onwards. You just get to experience it every time your braces are tightened (yay!) The only pain increase I had was when they switched me from straight wire across the brackets to the braided wire that figure-8's around the brackets, which they twist to tighten. And once again, that was only a temporary pain.

Oh, wow! I'm actually slightly nostalgic for my braces now... Okay, moment's gone.

Anyway, I had the same brackets you do - I dunno if they're ceramic, but they worked fine for me. Anyway, My advice about them being clear, is if you have clear brackets, make sure you get the clear tie things, and if you have pearl brackets, make sure you get the pearl band tie thingies. I had to be in my braces an extra 6 months (although I was in them for my bite, and was refusing to wear my bands), and have the beginnings of a social anxiety disorder anyway - they put pearl ties on my clear brackets without me noticing, and I literally had a breakdown! They stood out like neon - it was horrible. I went back and made them change them.

Hmm... Don't use soy sauce!!! It stains the bands horribly! One thing I noticed with the clear brackets is that the brackets didn't stain, but the bands that hold the wire down did - so if you want to, like, use soy sauce or something, wait until you're due for an appointment! Um, I didn't follow, like, any of the rules of stuff not to eat. I followed the rules of no nuts, no taffy, no caramel, and only sugarless gum, but those are the only ones I followed at all.

A tip I learned - as soon as you leave the orthodontist from, like, getting them tightened, start chewing sugarless gum!!! It helps SO much with the pain.

I had that the ENTIRE time I was in braces. It wasn't pleasant - I couldn't bite anything, and I looked like an idiot when I ate. So, yeah, it might not go away...

Thanks for the advice guys, and keep it coming! This thread isn't only for my braces inquiries :)

As of now, I ran out of the "superfloss" so I'm going to purchase some more tomorrow but since I got my braces on, I've missed three days in regards to flossing so I'll restart again tomorrow.

At least on a positive note, the pain (pressure really) has lowered in intensity and it only takes me 20 minutes to floss now (I only have the top braces remember).

I don't have any bands. My friend said they put them on later.

So I should ask for pearl bands if they do place some on?

I think they make clear rubber bands to help with over-/underbite, now. At least, that's what my brother had (I didn't need to have them). Then again, maybe he lucked out.

Oh, I don't have an under-/overbite. He said my teeth were perfectly leveled, which was the problem as the top teeth should be slightly ahead of the bottom teeth.
