The best time on the Christmas paintbrush is during the run-up on demand in late November/early December. The later you wait, though, there's the chance that TNT will give it out again from the AC and kill the prices (they still haven't recovered from the last giveaway -- I'd found 3 the week before they gave them out and didn't get a chance to sell them before the market tanked. They're still sitting there.)
No idea on the MP -- I have one of those, too.
