New irritation

New irritation on Neopets. :x

Logged on tonight and the bright orange "nickelodeon" in the upper right just hurt my eyes:

And this on the left:

I hope this goes away soon because it's not only annoying, it shrinks the viewable space on the page.

May I introduce you to one of our foxy friends Remove It Permanently? It's right up there with Adblock Plus, NoScript, Better Privacy, and Image Zoom. These only work in Firefox, of course. The little Nick box was a tough little bugger to remove -- I had to select "remove from this domain" and "remove all similar items" before it actually was removed permanently. But it's gone in all its orangey ugliness!

As you might already know Neopets is part of the Nickelodeon Family. We've added a new feature to Neopets that you will find on all of the Nickelodeon properties by the end of the month. The bar up at the top now connects Neopets, Petpet Park and other sites within the world of Nickelodeon, making it easier to find other Nickelodeon sites and to connect to new games. Woohoo!

From the news.

You can Adblock it by adding this filter:

beanmommy: Hmm. That doesn't seem to work for me. Does this action require adblock plus? Or can you go into slightly more detail on the operation of this?

I have adblock plus. I was able to rightclick on the Nickleodean button and remove it simply by using adblock plus. But when I tried yesterday what beanmommy suggested for the left side of the line - removing the list of links by adblocking the mamabar, I ended up with a half-a-page vertical list of all of the links. So I removed the mamabar block and figure I'll have to settle for the extra writing in the upper left hand corner- at least it is only a portion of a line.

I am reading with interest what others have found that might get rid of even this.

I just used Remove It Permanently and it works wonders the only problem is having a thin white strip at the top which is really easy to get used to

@Siniri & @ginny-ROX - Does RIP (in Firefox) show the item briefly while the page loads, then make it vanish?

I found RIP for Opera and it does make the whole bar 'disappear', leaving a white bar, but only after the page/bar loads. It is only there momentarily. Unfortunately, it must be RIP-ped on every page. Does Firefox RIP do it "once for all", or do you need to RIP it every page also?

It gives you an option of: Remove from this page only, Remove from all similar pages, Remove from this website, Remove from this domain

and yes it does only breifly (like 1 second) show up but I have gotten used to not bothering with it

Thanks Ginny!
The Opera version of RIP only removes the bar on each page - one at a time. The Opera version does appear to work like the Firefox version - it will briefly show the bar as the page loads, then >poof< the bar is gone. With a quick look at the javascript file, a very minor tweak now nukes the bar for all of Neopia! :D

For advanced Opera users willing to play with JavaScripts...
Add the following code to the very bottom of the "Remove_it_permanently-for_Opera.js" file:
BlOCKED__.add("http://www.neopets.com/*",["/HTML/BODY/DIV/DIV","/HTML/BODY/DIV[3]/DIV/IMG"])

Hmm, I don't know what to say -- I'd Googled this up:

And it worked a treat for me -- AdBlock Plus, FF 3.0.14. Entire bar disappeared instantly.

Holey Moley, beanmommy!
I used the JN tip for Internet Explorer and applied it to Opera - Created the neopetsadblock.css style sheet, activated it and >wham< no more bar at all. No flash of orange nickelodeon. Not even the white rectangle.

THANKS!
