Daily Dare will begin at 12:00 AM Neopian Standard Time, Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 and end at 11:59 PM Neopian Standard Time, Thursday, March 31st, 2011. (Neopian Standard Time is equal to U.S. Pacific Time)

Daily Dare Rules/FAQs Link

Overview:

Daily Dare - as before

Double Dare - as before

Team Challenges - Partner up with a Neofriend to challenge AAA's or Abigail's score and win a special prize!

Daily Dare Staff Tournament - This year, The Neopets Team has been split into teams of two and will face off against each other in one Daily Dare Challenge each week.

NC Challenge - as before. Game Tickets are sold individually and in packs of 5, 10, and 31.

** Now, when you send a score for AAA or Abigail, it can count toward Lulu and your Daily Dare NC Challenge, too!

RETRO CHALLENGE TUESDAYS - An additional NC Challenge. A game from last year is playable every Tuesday.....last years prizes are awarded.

New trophy levels:
Gold - Beat AAA each challenge day.
Silver - Complete all challenges before the end of Daily Dare, beating AAA at least once.
Bronze - Beat Abigail each challenge day.
Participation Medal - Complete one or more challenegs.

New Day and Date Prizes:
New this year are the day and date bonus prizes for beating AAA or Abigail on the day a challenge is released. Every time you complete a challenge for AAA or Abigail on the day of that challenge's release, you will win a bonus prize in addition to the regular AAA or Abigail item for that day. These day and date bonus prizes award true gamers who play Daily Dare every day.

Daily Dare Staff Tournament:
The Daily Dare Staff Tournament will run from March 4th, 2011, until March 31st, 2011. This year, however, the Staff Tournament will consist of four match-ups, which will take place on each Friday during Daily Dare, i.e., March 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th.

Every Friday during Daily Dare, you'll have the opportunity to pick which team will win each match-up. If you've chosen well, you'll receive special prizes at the end of Daily Dare! And if you haven't chosen well, that's what booby prizes are for!

I'm excited. Last year's categories were a bit ridiculous, so I'm glad they've simplified things. I'm hoping for the top prize again. And I'll be picking snarkie for 1st place in the staff tourney; she's due for a win.

I got back to Neopets after a LONG hiatus, and want to let you know I beat AAA for the prizes

Everyone knows you should have panks around just in case you need them.

I see they still haven't managed to fix the lag in the Daily Dare game (to be fair, it was a lot better than in the first year of DD, but for games that involve precise timing, better's not good enough). It took me ~15 minutes to hit 1000 vs. the 3-4 turns (i.e.,, less than 1 minute) it usually does. Nothing like watching the bar go halfway along the meter further after you *release* the spacebar... At least it was an easy game/score.

I like the background, though, and the typo in the bonus prize's description is funny.

I'm just glad to see this back. It's weird, I've been scaling back my neopets time lately (curse you, GemCraft!), but this is something I was really looking foward to.

Oh, thanks, Daze! Hope it's not too late! Today's also a team challenge. I was a bit confused on what to do, so here are some instructions in case anyone else wants to know:

1) Go ahead and sign up for the team challenge, even if you don't have a partner yet. Then select your challenger (AAA or Abi) from within the team challenge pop-up. If you challenge AAA or Abi without entering the team challenge, you can't enter it later, but there's no penalty for entering and not succeeding, as far as I can tell.

2) Once you find a partner, they also need to challenge the same opponent from within the team challenge pop-up. Then one of you can send an invitation to the other (you can reach the invitation by clicking on "Team Challenge" at the top of the Daily Dare page).

3) The other one can see their challenges by clicking on "Team Challenge" at the top of the Daily Dare page; click "Accept."

4) Beat your opponent. You'll get the regular Daily Dare prizes as soon as you do. Once your partner does, I'm assuming you'll both get the Team Challenge prize (still waiting on this part).

ETA: Haha, the Staff Tourney page cracked me up.

Good luck, and may the team that does the best job of slowing down their computers by leaving things running in the background win!

Great tips Siniri. There also seems to be a glitch? with the invites. I couldn't find my invite until I had sent one back to my friend, then I refreshed my page and could accept the team challenge.

Neoboard is a riot of people not knowing what to do.

We have fixed the Team Challenge glitch where if you challenge AAA or Abigail on the homepage (or any page other than the Team Challenge page), you would be locked out of the challenge. Now you can challenge AAA or Abigail from anywhere and still send invites to your Neofriends. (Don't forget, though, that you only have the weekend to complete this week's Team Challenge! After that, you'll need to wait for the next one.) Play On!

I gotta say that Kou-Jong is crazy hard. Anyone got any good tips for beating the 800 score point? I just can't get past 670 or so.

A note from the editorial:

People on the Daily Dare Neoboard have been debating the new rules for Daily Dare trophies, so could you pretty please clarify? Some say that the rules and FAQs make it clear that you will get a gold trophy by beating AAA in every challenge, regardless of whether you do it on release day. Others say that, since the top trophy in past years was based upon beating him on release day, this is actually still the case. So, could you please put a stop to the debate? Which is it? ~butterfly_girl_22
The gold trophy will be awarded to players defeating AAA at all the challenges, regardless of the day on which it is done. This year, instead of having multiple trophies for such things as beating the challenges on their release days, there are bonus prizes each day for completing the challenge on the day it's released.

For those who have times when they'll be busy, or are struggling with a particular game, this could be beneficial to you.

Regarding Kou-jong, my first game was a 794. In the second game, I had 354 in the first round but was kind of slow in the second and third rounds, yet I still beat AAA handily (914). Here are hints, such as they are, though I'm not sure they'll be helpful:

1) Play on hard. I don't think it's possible to get 800 on any of the other difficulties.

2) Click as quickly as possible (you can start a second match just before the first one disappears, as long as one edge of the tile is open). Playing in low quality and closing other memory/bandwidth-intensive programs can help boost your time bonus (I've heard a smaller window can, too, but that hurts my eyes, so I don't bother).

3) Pay attention to duplicates in any given row as the game loads -- especially if they're adjacent or you have multiple duplicates in a row. Work away at that row first, keeping in mind what tiles were duplicates and making sure you don't use them up -- you want to save them to use 1 with the first duplicate. After considering duplicates, clear from the top down and outside in* (*this is the most critical strategy for level 2, which is the hardest), focusing on the longest rows first (on level 3, pay attention to the 3 pieces on the ends that are blocking two rows, and the piece on the very top). If four identical tiles are free, clear the whole set as soon as you notice so you can see what they're hiding.

4) If you're just not seeing any pairs, use a hint, but try to train your eyes to continuously scan only the available tiles, so you can find the pairs more quickly. Type cyodrake to get an extra hint. Ideally, your hand should be constantly moving to your next pair as your eyes scan to find the one after that. If you've looked for more than 5 seconds, use a hint.

5) Here are some tentative scores to aim for:
First level: 250 points (time = 106 or higher)
Second level: 525 (time = 131 or higher, stage score = 144 + time bonus)
Third level: 800 (time = 131 or higher, stage score = 144 + time bonus)

Right before you finish a level, check to see if you're near the benchmark above; if you're not even close, reset that level so you'll only have to redo one or two levels instead of the whole game. (Of course you can adjust the goal down if you have beaten a previous level by a considerable chunk of time; for example, if you have 300 after the first level, you can hit 525 with only 81 seconds left on level 2.)

As a reference, this is what I got in my third game: 320, 640, 946.

Blitzkrieg was 7th last year (see here), beating AAA 50% of the time and Abi the rest. By my reckoning, she seems to be fairly decent at arrow-key-controlled games, but lacks patience (she tended to challenge Abi in the longer games, though she did beat AAA in Spinacles). V-Man was an abysmal twelfth, not even bothering to challenge anyone the last few days of the challenge. He challenged AAA every time, but only beat him in 10 of 29 challenges.

Breik and Squiggles are complete unknowns. It's a close call, but I think I'll go with consistency over arrogance. Team Polarchuck Opposites FTW!
