Favourite bird?

I've become very fond of birds in the last couple of years and I'm considering studying them more and more. I'd like to be a bird watcher and might start joining some bird watching clubs.

Anyway, I don't have a favourite bird as such, because I think all birds are lovely, but a breed I'm overly fond of are divers, or loons as they are known in North America. They are very sleek looking and make really unique and beautiful sounds. Kind of haunting sounds, they make.

Another species of bird I like are of the tit family. We recently had a family of great tits nesting in our garden in a bird box that my dad made. They breed there every year although unfortunately one of our cats killed one of the little fledglings. It can't be helped I'm afraid and I try not to dwell on things like that happening. They are such beautiful birds and I'm very grateful that they choose our garden to nest in every summer.

So, what are YOUR favourite birds?

Hee! Thought I'd mention that I love cockatiels too. Although they do deafen your ears, they are very adorable. I have to admit, I like them more than budgies I'm afraid.

Not a bird person, because they're everywhere I go.

I have to go with the two bird that symbolize America: the Bald Eagle and the Turkey. Both could have been the nation's birds, but they accidently cooked the turkey at the announcement banquet so we had to get the bald eagle

(Truth: Franklin did suggest the turkey as our national bird)

I also really like: most small birds of any variety, crows, and other raptors too.

Jays are the worst. Them and gulls annoy me all the time.

Living in an area where I potentially get woken up every morning by certain species by birds and I can get stalked by one species if I walk while I've got food I'll have to go with the WillyWagtail because it does neither and they're always interesting to watch.

Yes! Keas are great. They are my favorite bird, too.

Although... American Kestrels are pretty cool. And the Mandarin Duck...

And so many other countless birds. o_o

Britains only Bird of Prey(as far as I remember), The sparrow hawk.
Had one fly into our Conservatory once (at me old house), which was understandably odd given that they are meant to be extinct in that area.

Sorry, but I have to prove you wrong there. We have a lot of birds of prey in this country. Here are some of them.

Sparrow hawk.
Kestrel.
Buzzard.
Honey buzzard.
Red kite.
Golden eagle.
Sea eagle.
Osprey.
Merlin.
Tawny owl.
Barn owl.
Peregrine falcon.

I've actually seen a sparrow hawk, kestrel, buzzard, red kite and peregrine falcon soaring the skies in Great Britain. Golden eagles only populate Scotland and are pretty rare, and so do sea eagles, whereas the honey buzzard usually only populates a small area of southern England and red kites only populate Wales, but they are birds of Great Britain nonetheless.

In addition they are really curious and really friendly, the city ones are a little more reserved but in the countryside they will follow you as you walk or land beside you. That photo in particular was taken by me at a distance of about 1 foot
