Final Fantasy XII

#1 Post by YesItIsh »

Yay, FFXII finally released. And it's so pretty @_@ It looks really really amazing, and my sister preordered it and got it today. And she also got the big big chunky heavy strategy guide with the artbook. Rofl.

So yeah. Nothing really to say for now except for how good it looks. XD And that omg final fantasy. :p

I preordered it at the DigitalLife technology expo and got the soundtrack (well, part of it) with my preorder.

*bounces around*

It shipped yesterday, and it's arriving tomorrow!

Yeah, I want to get it, but I don't have the $54 or so to shell out buying it. I think I'm just going to get the FF3 remake on the DS. I've been waiting a long time for a worthwhile DS game (there aren't that many, really) and I'll probably spend the money on that instead, since I've been looking forward to it for a while now.

I really want to play XII, after X, in my opinion, being "okay". I'm also glad how they changed the story to become more like Final Fantasy Tactics (I think the story's darker and more about government conspiracies and the such, at least that's what I've read), and the battle system isn't just "Press x, x, x" over and over again to attack an enemy.

I think I want to rent it while I'm waiting to buy it, so I don't have to wait to play it.

I think i'm getting the game this weekend. Sounds like it'll be a fun but different FF experience. Awesome graphics and probably a great storyline like usual.

I played the demo quite a while ago, and I was very disappointed. If it's just pretty I'm not going to bother playing.

Err, the demo was released about a year ago (November last year), while the game was still in production. Needless to say, the game's probably nothing like the early demo (aside from the battles being roughly the same, but in the demo, you don't get to do anything beside attack and use a very limited amount of spells, and also play inside a boring temple environment [the beach wasn't bad, though]). The demo was hardly interesting at all, though it wasn't that bad.

The freaking insignia has over-the-top graphics. Even if I had an HDTV and a PS3, I'd be wary of a lack of plot from this one.

What's this I hear about a change in the battle system? Surely they're not basing this on manual dexterity! That's why I've never played any Zelda, even though I hear it rocks - without ATB, I'm sunk before I reach the first boss. (Turn-based is fine, natch, but as that's what they did for FFX, it's apparently not that.)
Do what you will; but I will hinder it if I may.

What I find to suck... I bought the collector's edition... but due to school, I literally have NO time to play it. I watched the opening and had to turn it off. :(

From the demo it seemed to be ATB, but it's not "stand there in place and wait to attack or be attacked" like the others. There aren't any random battles, but you still have to wait for the bar to fill (and enemies have to wait a certain amount of time) to attack. Pretty much, you don't have to sit around waiting for random battles to load, because the battling is real-time ATB (if that makes any sense at all). I don't know if they've changed anything having to do with the battle since then, since the demo was rather incomplete, as far as most of the battling was concerned.

You mean the enemies are visible in the field, a la Chrono Trigger? I can dig that.

Yep the monsters are visible on the map. So you get a feel of what monster you are up against and run away if you see something you might not be able to handle. This brings the whole term of "running away" literally.

FF XII is AWESOME.
I'm absolutely loving the storyline so far (well, okay, I'm not playing it. Though I want to, I played X which means it's my husband's turn to play XII the whole way through first while I watch. We have a weird system, but it works). What I've seen is SO awesome!

I can't wait until the Europe release. I'm getting it, definitely. After I enjoyed FFX a lot, I'll be looking forward to this instalment. Now I'm really excited and want to play it. >.> A lot.

I bought it with my birthday money (actually got enough to buy it). I haven't played THAT much of it yet (though it probably comes out to 10 hours at least), but it really is good. I'll admit that sometimes running from one area to another can become repetitive (as with any game), but I love the gambit system, and the magic/weapon/armor system.

SEMI-SPOILERS...... POSSIBLY?
.
.
.
.

Gambits basically allow you to set specific orders to your party members and each one has a certain height of importance. You basically make them do what you want, considering you have the Gambits and the Gambits slots to do so.

So you could have something like this on one of the characters:
1. Any ally HP < 50% [Cure]
2 Any ally MP < 20% [Ether]
3. Party Leader's Target [Attack]

With that, the character will ALWAYS heal a person with less than 50% life before doing anything else. If no one has less than 50% HP (or the equipped character doesn't have enough to cast it), they will use Ether on whatever character needs it. Whenever there is no need to do any of the first two, they will attack whomever is nearest to them.

(I would rather have something like "Self MP < 20% [Ether]" but I don't have that one yet, if you can even get it. It seems to be much more useful since I've gotten but 4 or 5 ethers the entire game so far. And don't really want to waste them on Guests that waste their MP. >_>)

Also, any character can use any weapons (so long as you have them licensed for it), and can be good with it. You a guy that joins your party as a pure warrior be a Mage if you want to, all you have to do is make sure you have the spell and probably a staff.

Also, Guns in that game are severely overrated. >_> They're pretty bad, so I just handed them a rod (Like Kilik from Soul Calibur), much faster to attack with and stronger (and adds evade).
