As the migratory birds continue to spread the avian flu virus throughout the world, your common lifestyle could endanger you. Maybe you should wonder whether you really are prepared in case of a new pandemic.
For example, Dr Iea Longini, a well known biostatistician warns keen travelers that they should avoid travelling by air, because “Aero planes re-circulate air which is ideal for spreading a flu virus throughout the whole cabin.”
Dr John Treanor, a researcher of the bird flu vaccine warns both students and teachers that spending your time in a place where lots of people crowd together increases the risk of being infected. Parents should know that “children are the major transmitters” – according to Longini. Therefore the most exposed individuals are parents as well as teachers.
Lamb also warns us against using any means of public transport because “Anytime people start coughing or sneezing close by, risk of transmission rises.”
Unfortunately, even the most innocent handshake or close indoor seating’s have made churches , mosques and synagogues dangerous places to be in. “Congregating in one room is undoubtedly the way to spread infection,” says Dr Robert Lamb.
Because indoor sports games is an easy way of getting more people infected , most of these sports events might be cancelled if a pandemic is triggered. However, watching the game at a bar, in front of a huge TV screen while surrounded by lots of other people is not a good idea either.

I am not sure where I stand on this subject, and I don't want to say anything that I would regret or that would start an argument. But I currently do not feel the need to prepare for a pandemic.

Yeah. Collins, if you are so at risk from bird flu, why haven't a billion chinese people died? After all, that's where bird flu comes from.
I really wouldn't worry to much, we were living in Turkey when there were a few deaths near Van from bird flu, and no-one from the base or our surrounding area had any problem. All of the deaths were in a very poor area that had limited access to health care, and poor sanitation.
We continued to shop at the mall, flew on Turkish airlines, and had no problems at all. We were all nervous when it first showed up, but didn't let it rule our lives. If you are still worried, take good care of yourself, get enough sleep, eat heathy...and all the rest. It certainly can't hurt anyway, and you might even get fewer colds this year!
in the states we worry more about west nile in my area than bird flu. (espically since st. louis has its own hard to cure strain).
I'd worry about the pandemic bridge when you come to it. Theres really no way to stop these things. Man thinks they can, but in the end all they can do is treat it when it gets here or try to prevent it with a shot (like we do for the flu or menongitis).
& there is the whole theory that goes: with global warming tropical diseases are speading north, as climates rise.
which worries the US since places like Florida, Hawaii and Texas are so close to topical reigons. And there are horrible tropical diseases like the flesh eating bacteria.
I think everywhere has their own fair share of scary diseases. I know I am scared to death of getting rabbit fever (caused by ticks...much like Lime disease only rabbit fever is very deadly).
I rather just not fear and live my life. And if I end up with something? meh, atleast I lived.

sounds kinda like our west nile. It was bad after Kartina. Since New Orleans was flooded it left alot of standing water...and alot of breeding skeeters.
Luckily we didnt have west nile problems in 93 when the big flood in Missouri happened. My family lost our house (my town was small and in a valley surrounded by rivers and creeks).
but Missouri also has the largest problem with Lime disease (a tick born disease that has no cure but is treatable).

Mosquitos don't lay in moving water, and having a fish will remove any of them.
When the center for disease control finds out people have the bird flu, they'll basically quarantine a whole town. People will begin to run out of supplies, pillage each other, and there will be no law and order until the strongest or smartest person in town is the last one standing, until he or she also drops dead.
But I don't wish to be a hermit, so I'll just isolate myself at the last minute.
I find mass diseases fascinating. Not good, but very interesting. I know, I'm weird!
The world is due for a massive flu though, we have fallen off the "cycle" a bit. I don't really think it's a question of whether it will happen, but more a question of where and how bad.
